Oculus Rift and colours in Elite Dangerous thread

I am on the latest oculus runtime, running gamma, and I notice that really dark colors appear really oddly on the rift, and that there is a weird edge affect around the blacks on my screen. It almost seems to apply a greenish color to it. I wish I could get a screenshot to illustrate what I mean but it only appears on the rift, if I take a screenshot the artifacts don't appear, and if I move it to my monitor everything looks fine.

edit:

I was able to take a crappy photo with my cellphone looking through the oculus as it is the only way to capture this:

whilst that looks worse that i have ever seen before, it is a limitation of the screen in the rift. very dark blacks sometimes have a green hue.

try upping your gamma a little in your brightness settings. like i said tho, that is especially bad by the looks of it.

I don't have exactly the same issue but get some green flashing pixels for real blacks in ed which I don't notice in any other game or demo. I see them especially at the map screen descriptions and they seem to be related to the screen refresh rate because they only flicker in one row. Perhaps the two issues are related. For me it also got better after increasing gamma so its only affecting pixels with rgb (0,0,0) now.

I blive this issue is know as the green haze. I get this quite often after a system reboot. Just restart the Oculus service, and your blacks are back !)

I have a similar problem, and tweaking the gamma setting doesn't appear to make any difference.

But what's strange is that the problem only occurs when in Extended Mode. Direct Access works fine.

I believe this is related to the DK2 low persistence feature. For some reason, low persistence keeps deactivating all the time, and if I'm not mistaken, your problem is a consequence of that. Try turning the Rift's Direct HMD Access mode on and off while Elite is running, see if that helps. (I assume you're using Extend Desktop mode.)

I am, I will try this fix when I am home.

So running in direct mode fixes the discoloration but introduces a lot of judder. Toggling it back to extended mode does reintroduce the discoloration.

Only time I had haze was when I was off by a runtime or two. As soon as I updated the Haze went away... BTW, I am still running Oculus 0.4.3 and no issues with Haze (currently).
Maybe switch back from 0.4.4 and see what happens...?

So I have figured it out, it seems to be that low persistence is disabled when I enter elite dangerous. Re-enabling low persistence in other programs does not persist and as soon as I enter elite, low persistence is yet again disabled. Is it possible to toggle low persistence within elite dangerous? A setting to change perhaps?

edit: I fixed it

1) In extended mode with elite dangerous launched, I set my refresh rate to 75Hz in the graphics menus. I applied and kept the changes, then quite the game, and closed the launcher.

2) I ran Titans of Space, went to the options menu and toggled low persistence, off then on. I then quite titans of space.

3) I launched the launcher for elite and then the game and now it seems low persistence has stuck.

Unfortunately my issue reemerged and nothing seems to fix it. Following the previous steps I took does not seem to alleviate the issue. Any help greatly appreciated.

Change UI color sharper text - works great!

By changing the UI color to green or colors using a lot of green you get a lot sharper text. It is because of the DK2's pentile display that has twice as many green pixels.

Doing this mod is like changing the display to a higher res display.

This is basically a must. No more leaning into the console to read text!

I only found this on reddit and wanted to share. This is not my work.

Can confirm that for me text looks much better, it is still not ideal but better than orange for sure. It does change all red to green, so friendly ships now appear as red, but I can get use to this :)

Something messed up my DSR settings at the same time, but it may be coincidence, will check it later, for now I use 1920 res, when enabling 2540 image gets separated ...

The problem with the Reddit mod is that the ship icons are now reversed. Enemy ships are no longer Red and Friendly no longer green.

Has anyone found a way to just change the text without screwing up the radar friend/foe colours?

Thanks!
