Oculus Rift General Discussion and OR Games to try out Thread

i7 5820k @4.4
7970 @ 1200/6500

shadows medium, no ao, no blur, no aa
all rest on max

75+ in space
65 stations

beta 3 performs very nicely for me.

Not a OR user (yet)
I take it you guys all have vertical sync on?
Is that a requirement of OR and if not how much does turning it off improve performance and impair quality?
I cannot turn sync off in game settings its set, maybe able to force it off somehow. In direct mode I can select to a max of 60Hz but the blur is too bad at 60Hz.

Thanks for the info. I hope the release version has much improved performance. I have a mid range system and don't fancy spending a few hundred just for a taste of VR.

Trolled by UPS

So I had ordered a Oculus Rift DK2 on the 7th of November and it was supposed to arrive today just in time for beta 3.9 ... all nice and good; got home around 2pm (US Pacific time) sat around and read the forums, saw the servers go down for the update to 3.9 ... then I look at my UPS order:

2:23pm First Attempt made customer not home! ... I hadn't heard anything on my phone or at the door so I go around and check around for the note and find no notice anywhere. I call up UPS they say it's a regular driver that often delivers this route and verify my address so no idea on their part. They said they'll try again tomorrow at 2pm ... here's hoping to avoid a repeat performance and try out the rift with 3.9

I was super thrilled about my DK2, and my UPS guy (and the mail man) do that crap all the time. I swear they sneak up, brush a feather against the door and then run to hide in the bushes.

Mine ended up being delivered right as I was headed out for work. Thankfully I work in hour/two hour blocks, so I didn't have to wait too long to get home, but I was totally distracted the whole time.

Leave a sticky-note out there that reads "I'm home. Use your cop knock!"

Just bit the bullet and ordered a rift DK2 myself. Says next shipment is in 2 to 4 weeks. Guess the Christmas rush is starting... or that is a canned response/message on the webpage.

Hope it's worth it but at that price you can't go wrong.

Picked up from an VR event in London a month or back.

The consumer version is rumored for for May 15.
I also heard that DK2 was very close to being the final release spec but once they were bought by Facebook and had a ton of cash to play with, they went back to the drawing board. The latest prototypes are meant to be mind blowing.

I reckon:

Announcement in May 15, lots of pre-orders taken. When pre-ordering opens it will break the internet for a little while.
Shipping begins in Oct 15 with an *enormous* backlog that makes DK2 look plentiful. Every DK2 owner will be in the list, plus the hordes that have been waiting for CV1.
General availability Early 2016.

My estimate is finalized production pipeline by June-July 2015, where the first CV1 are delivered around August-September

November 2015, so it's ready for chrismas for millions of gamers.

I just hope I'll save enough money for it by then. :D

DK2 Seems to be in stock...

I put in my order today and got the payment taken, order preparing for shipping email just a few hours later. Thought I'd share for people who have been considering ordering one but didn't because they figured they wouldn't be getting it in time for Xmas. Obviously I haven't gotten the 'shipped' email yet but what I got made me pretty sure it's going to be shipped tomorrow'ish
