Boohoo... After a hard day's work, I wanted to relax a little in my asteroid field. After months of flawlessly flying around with my ancient Dell T5500/GTX970 setup, for a couple of days now it is not possible to play any more. Constantly the hour glass symbol in my Rift shows up and the game studers/freezes. So, no Asteroids for me currently, nor nothing else. Does anyone of you have an idea what could cause this, and more importantly, how I could get rid of this? Thanks in advance and o7!

try uninstalling GeForce exp as is known to cause stutters in some games
And that apparently did the trick. Thank you!
