Oculus Rift S Controls

Hello,

Have been playing the game for a few weeks now and I am sold. Decided to try playing it in VR with Oculus Rift S and having a massive issue.
When loading the game through Oculus or Steam VR, the controls provided with VR do not work at all. I have been searching for an answer for the past 12 hours and no luck so far. Some say to activate the 3D HMD setting and others say that it is just plug-in and play. Unfortunately for me, nothing seems to work.

The game loads fine without any issues or errors. While in the hanger with the ship, I can't select any of the options with the Rift S controllers or the mouse. I have tried changing the settings under the controller in Oculus but it does not change anything, still no controls.

If anyone has any idea why I can't use the controls, please let me know.

How were you playing before playing in VR?
Those controls should just carry through and be selectable as your control scheme.
The Touch controls map as a joypad controller and are poorly mapped (and have insufficient options to map even the most needed controls effectively)

Hi RipPaw,

I've only been playing for a week or so using the Rift S and also have a few problems but also som solutions.

My problems are to do with how exactly I can use / enable some of the facilities in the Galactic maps (turning on / off options, enabling the route finding etc).

General controls I have sorted by downloading and using a licenced (the princely sum of £7.00) copy of Voice Attack. This works brilliantly and allows you to make voice commands for all manner of things e.g. going into / out of Super Cruise, flipping through tabs of the HUD's etc. It takes a bit of time to map all the key strokes copying the relevent ones from the game control options into Voice Attack (VA). You also need to follow the VA instructions in setting up VA and teaching your PC to understand your voice / accent. Great bit of sfotware and makes thins simple.

Can anyone help with how I can better manipulate the options in the Galactic maps please? Pretty please??

Using the word "controlls" is not enough...

OP If you were using keyboard and mouse BEFORE selecting VR... keyboard and mouse will be the default still...
Were you using a Hotas then you just continue to use a hotas..

Oculus "touch hand motion controllers" suck for ED...
You need to use Keyboard and mouse First to select them from the drop down menu in the options "First" if there still supported...

People dont bother and use a Microsoft xbox game pad or even Sony DS4 controller via USB to insure devices registers... not via Bluetooth as compliance over bluetooth cards is and issue per Card maker but a Hotas rules for VR

Hey,

Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

A couple of quick ones if I may?

I'm kind of old-school ( i originally played Elite on the BBC / Acorn micro back in the 1980's and had to build my own joystick as they just weren't available. Things change...

HOTAS. If i pick one up will somthing like an X52 make my life all shiney? How much of the HUD operations can be utilised via a HOTAS?

If you use a HOTAS and a keyboard how do you manage this with a VR headset on?

With a little patience with bindings (and probably a lot of cuss-words!) the X52 will do almost anything in-game.
The default bindings (if memory serves) for the Galaxy Map work very well in VR, all of the menus and their navigation easily done too.
In truth the toughest bit is in finding binding combinations that are easily remembered - but once 'sorted' become muscle memory in and out of VR.
Subtle suggestion - the Logitec Software permits unbinding 'Clutch' and 'mouse' functions which opens up more possibilities.
The 'pinkie switch' made an excellent 'shift' button for me - permitting using the hat switches in particular for 'double functions' - which I'm currently trying to reproduce on my new Warthog stick - and failing...

I have just recently purchased a Rift S also and had a similar issue until I worked out why, it was not easy to notice, but when you start the game via third party its not always the 'Focused' window on your desktop, controllers are trying to operate an alternative window [remember VR version window cant go full screen]. just lift your head headset and select the ED window, then all should work fine [picky I know, annoying some would say, but the price for being multi flexible system].
