Oculus Rift text readability?

So I went out to a BestBuy that was about an hour away yesterday to try out the Rift before I decide to buy one. I ran a demo and honestly it was a lot better than I expected, the SDE really wasn't nearly as bad as some make it out to be and is really only noticeable if you try and look for it.

The one thing is that none of the demos really seemed to have text on the screen to read and one of the issues I've read is people say you can't really read text all that well with the Rift in ED, so I'm wondering how bad that really is? Is the text just harder to read? Is it just a bit fuzzy? Or is it just downright unreadable? I'm leaning towards picking up a Rift at this point.... but I just want to make sure the experience is actually usable past the "Oh wow so immersive" feeling wears off.

I'll be getting a 1080ti computer so plenty of horsepower for supersampling and so on.

Hello Hdale, I find the text perfectly readable in all cases. The rift requires a bit of tinkering with for best result. And by that I mean the settings.

edit...This little tool is very good for changing the game and HMD settings easily until all runs at its best. And for experimenting with different HUD colours, as people find some colours look clearer than others.

The text is just lacking in some sharpness that's all. With a 1080ti you'll be able to crank up settings such as HMD Image Quality, supersampling and AA so you'll have no issue. Changing the HUD colour to one based on light blue or green also helps.

Ok, that reassures my decision and I'll definitely pick one up. I was strongly considering the Pimax 4k business edition before trying the demo or waiting for the 5k. Although the 5k would still be tempting due to the FOV.

It's fine, some people change the color to try and alleviate screen door bleed, but it's really legible. Just get you're ipd right on the rift.
playing with supersampling, aa, and hmd work well. You just need the gpu power to make it smooth.
