Odyssey and Horizons locations not matching up

I've raised issues about bases not being in their correct location a couple of times now. Once for a mission to collect data at a base where the base was not at the coordinates specified and more recently at an abandoned base which was not where expected.
Currently I'm looking for some materials at Col 285 Sector BG-O d6-93 where there is an abandoned base according to https://eddb.io/attraction/73531
The base is supposedly located at: -5.836° 177.379°
It is in Horizons but in Odyssey that location is half way up a massive crater wall. It is in Odyssey but it is located at: 27.877°, -35.509°

Horizons at -5.836° 177.379° Source: https://imgur.com/Lc0cmbF

Odyssey at -5.836° 177.379° Source: https://imgur.com/by9xnc5

Odyssey at 27.886° -35.497° Source: https://imgur.com/5uPOunl

Has anyone else noticed these discrepancies? Does anyone know if the two versions of the game will eventually match up?

Cheers,
Mark

You wrote two threads but I will just answer a single one, I suggest asking a mod to close the other. This is expected behaviour, the new planetary tech in Odyssey will generate different terrains for the same locations as Horizons, so in many instances it would be impossible to have the same assets in the same places in both versions.

Horizons will not exist in the end..
EDO will be the only build... and there will be those who paid for "on foot" and those that did not..
There are no point changing EDH ground as its due to be erased...

Of course we know that it is like that. It's weird, but since Frontier completely messed up Odyssey launch, we have those two alternative versions of Milky Way.
Horizons is still running old engine until Fdev can optimize Odyssey for consoles. Then Horizons will be updated to run the same planet tech as Odyssey.

The problem is that some missions being given out in Odyssey are for locations that only exist in Horizons.

I don't know how I did that. If a Mod is watching can you delete the other thread please.

They will fix EDO they will erase EDH..
Odyssey is not supposed to replace Horizons (at least not now), so don't say it like that. They are not planning to erase Horizons.
Horizons planetary tech is supposed to switch to what Odyssey is using at some point, but that's not the same thing.

Horizons and Odyssey will still exist side by side, Horizons and Odyssey will use the same planetary tech, Horizons won't have access to legs content such as concoures, FC interiors and atmospheric planets, but they will both continue to exist side by side for a long time. So no, Horizons isn't suddenly going to vanish!

Which is, currently, probably something else that's being hindered by decisions related to consoles.

Almost certainly they don't want to try and support both planetary systems on consoles, that would be the main reason. So the console update will wait until the update on Horizons to the new planetary tech.

I guess it depends on what aspect of Odyssey is causing problems for consoles.

Fundamentally, I can play Odyssey on my old PC, which I happily played Horizons on since launch, although I had to dial the settings back a bit.
That was before all the various optimisations too so presumably it'll have improved since then.

I dunno how much of Horizons was chopped around to create Odyssey but, at worst, producing an updated version of Horizons should simply be a case of giving everybody "Odyssey" but with all the features that are specific to Odyssey disabled.

That being the case (which seems like a fairly reasonable assumption to make), and given the fact that my 10 year old PC can happily run Odyssey, it's unlikely there's anything major that's preventing the PC version of Horizons getting the Odyssey visuals.

Which leaves consoles.

Maybe they're struggling to get some other part of Odyssey working on consoles but, either way, it means we have to wait until FDev decide whether or not a console version of ED is viable before they can decide whether to press ahead with an updated version of Horizons on all platforms or whether the console version of ED will go the way of the Mac version and allow them to focus solely on standardising the PC versions of the game.

Previously, we had one client, which ran either the base game or horizons, and switches inside the code decided if you could do things which horizon players could only do.

At some point, I would suggest, the EDH client will be retired, and there will be one client, EDO. If you've paid for Odyssey, you'll get the full monty, else the client will prevent you from doing odyssey content.

The only reason they kept the EDH client is because they could not make the new EDO one work on consoles. So best to keep the two clients for now, until all can move to a single one.

It likely even more complicated than that and potentially a much bigger headache for FD. If they can only get Odyssey working reasonably on the current generation consoles they'd need to keep Horizons (or perhaps Odyssey-lite) running in some form for the last generation consoles, where a significant portion of their players still are. It's one thing to drop the undoubtedly tiny portion of players who were exclusively on Mac, quite another to decide to drop the up to 50% (???) of players that are on last generation consoles. And there's the extra complication of current gen consoles being in very short supply for at least another year or so, preventing many of the people who want to upgrade from doing so.

Painful and costly though it is for FD, I foresee that they'll have to keep a legacy console version of ED running for a good while yet.
