Oh, c'mon. He said "nearly". He never intended to be so exact.
He came up with one 8, you got two - so he undercalculated a little bit. No big deal.
It's too prematurely to suppose something about this part of Odyssey, IMHO. How far will these "legs" go? Civilian clothes?
And i guess too, the game needs some kind of constant income. Without a subscription, it could be an ongoing influx of the new players, and/or voluntary paying for more "beauty"..

I'm going to be upset if it turns out the outfits I have already are going to be useless and remain in my ship. I feel this is the case and made pretty obvious. The only place I could see it possible is in space station hubs and such.
I’d rather they have game impacting ways to make money, like not taking six years to release another paid expansion.
But, when their top grossing game is based on the sale of minimal effort products, why would FDev be in a hurry to spend significant resources on creating game impacting products? Here’s to the next six years of funding the game through paint jobs!

I’m pretty sure FDev has already said that all clothing purchased before Odyssey will still be wearable at stations and in-door locations with breathable air.
I get the feeling that the new suits in Odyssey are going to work similar to the Power Armour in Fallout 4 and be more like a “vehicle” you wear and have to maintain when you’re outdoors.
Kinda sounds like the MCRN power armor too when you say it like that
...but all of our "ship clothes" will be pristine... Will we be able to buy 'suit kits' that add Capes, over-trouser underwear & stuff, or, even better the "Raver Kit" that includes gravy stains, beer stains, bits of pizza and biscuit crumbs - along with an "abraded" suit skin?
These are the most pressing of questions
