Odyssey better for next gen only...

I think fdev will/has problems to convert odyssey for xbox one/PS4. I think they should bring it only for next gen console... Old gen should stay at Horizons with their own servers (it’s a solide perfect Game, but not with odyssey...) After 5 years they can put the servers offline for the old gen servers... (because all players moved over to the new generation).

So we can have a good Odyssey experience for all (when they Fixed/Improved the current pc version).

We have a new console generation, everyone who wants to play odyssey should buy a new console. Otherwise i see many problems for the future.

Seems like us console scrubs have dodged a bullet with Odyssey if the response on the other parts of this forum is accurate.

Hopefully by the autumn, the problems will have been patched out and we can play it relatively smoothly while smugly wondering what all the fuss from the PC players was about.

"Next gen" is already "this gen" - hopefully someone can get us some proper versions now.

Its not that bad, it pushes a lot of systems but it isn't anything that can't be fixed by those willing to compromise a bit an the settings front, most aren't however.

I don't think that the base console will be able to run it at all, ever, not without setting itself on fire however.

I try to explain my feelings with my (bad) english ^^
The thing what i want to say with this is.
In the middle of their development frontier needs to foresee if this new content will also run on the old generations and then take into account that this will work there. After the announcement to the public and the confirmation that odyseey also release for the old gen, they owned limits to their development. How something runs on a platform can then be adjusted to a certain amount based on the graphic settings, etc... but at the end the content shouldn't exceet a certain level of the ps4 and xbox one. otherwise content (loading sections) need to be changed or shortened in scope.

I think that this limitation represents not only much more effort for frontier, it also damage the game. The performance of a game can be adapted to the respective platform and depending on the effort involved, this can be done very well, but it takes up a lot of time and i think is not a nice job. And not forget the content that was maybe deleted and never published because of the old gen.

i just think frontier would make more for their company and for us over the time, if they always think in the first line about their game and less about the old platforms. with a good game customers come by themselves.

if we want to see ship interiors, gas giant flights, more station interiors, bigger stations or even city‘s - then is this the first step to let the old gens behind ^^ apart from the bad instancing on console with many other players, would it be cool to have 30+ possible players in one instance like on pc, but never with the old gen. Xbox Series X and PS5 could be do a much closer step to PC if we aren‘t forced to play with Xbox One or PS4 players.

I mean should this mean we are ever forced to stay where we are? I would like to see my favorit game in future at a good new state. I just worried to see everything what we still have from Elite Dangerous will suffers because of new content.

Furthermore they can add so many more new cool things to this game. And if they do it right then everyone will playing it xD ^^ :)

Nah....
My guess is that they will optimise the crap out of odyssey to work efficiently on everybody's Potatoe PC first. Then by the time that happens it will work on Xbox one just as horizons does now.

That last sentence... Does not fill me with hope... Horizons has, at least in my experience, run very well on both my day one Xbox One, and my series S. But for many people, it doesn't.

Guess I'm just not sure which way you're leaning with that?

I don't think this should happen considering how difficult it is for people to get the next gen consoles.

Plus fdev gave already said they won't do a special version for next gen consoles

Xbox Series X|S and PS5 are still in their first generation. Theres still a few years before support for X1 and PS4 starts to decline or the amount of ppl playing on X|S/PS5 far exceeds those on X1/PS4. The 360 continued for years after X1 released, although things seem to be moving a little faster than it did with the transition from 360 to X1.
Plus I'm sure devs have minimum standards for their games and/or added content that allows for a great experience without sacrificing stability or performance, or they wouldn't release it. It wouldn't make sense to release something on a platform if it's basically unplayable on it. Nobody would play it and that's just wasted time, resources and possible substantial loss of money in some cases. I'd at least wait til its finished and see how well it does before suggesting that older gen consoles should lose all support. Who knows, it could end up working very well. But I'm new here and to the game so idk if devs have stated if theres limits being reached for different aspects of the game. But from what little I've scrolled through, it sounds like they're pretty dedicated to making everything work that they want.

I play on an Xbox One S and Elite, in its current state, runs considerably better on it than other games do that aren't even near the same level as Elite, like CoD:WZ for example. That they've had to make 90% of everything on the map not render in completely unless you're standing in front of it, just so the consoles can run it without crossing the threshold of them crashing and overheating. Even then the game hasn't seen a full day of stability since release. I'm sure it's better on the newer consoles since they're a lot more powerful obviously.

Until consoles become customizable or upgradable, PC will always be a little more capable and efficient since consoles as a whole are made to eventually become outdated. Forcing you to spend $600+ on a completely new system when the same amount, if not less could be spent on one or two PC parts and be way better than the console is.
But theres a lot of smart, talented and dedicated ppl that can find ways to keep content pretty equal across platforms without too much sacrifice in one or the other throughout their planned life expectancy.

Horizons has, at least in my experience, run very well on both my day one Xbox One, and my series S. But for many people, it doesn't.

Is that a common problem a lot of ppl have experienced? cuz like I said I'm new here and to the game so idk if it's being reported often. But my Xbox One S (that literally runs 18+hours a day every day) runs it perfectly fine other than a couple connection problems. One being unable to connect. I've noticed at main the start screen before logging in, sometimes it says I'm unable to connect if I press the A button to log in. But if instead I press the Start/Menu to log in than it'll connect me without a problem

if Elite is unplayable for some ppl performance wise, on X1 atleast; but runs fine for others on the same platform..than I'd first wonder if maybe my consoles hardware might be failing before I assumed that the game was too intensive for it. Since theres others that haven't had any problems and the devs continue updating and releasing new content than it could be problems with individual systems, be it failing or defective hardware components rather than the platform as a whole

Sorry for the novel or if theres too much unneeded/overly explained parts. Tends to happen when it's about something I'm interested in XD

The 360 continued for years after X1 released,
Yes I agree and i know there are still to many who play on the last gen consoles.. There would be to many who are disappointed then/left behind. And don‘t forget the cash from that last gen players.. But after all i still think it would be better.. to get a more terrific experience for the future as fast as this is done. And i think with that, the most last gen players will join odyssey (if it’s only for X|S/PS5) on a later point again.

This means not Xbox1/Ps4 will left behind in a generally. I mean its the same like other games as a service Titels then, like destiny1. It was still supported like you say after the release from the xbox1/Ps4 for 360/ps3. I don’t know how long it was (2years?) and then with one new Expansion Bungie said, it will not come for 360/ps3 anymore. In this case here would be the only difference, it will happen a bit earlier¿ The older consoles would still supported in generally! It’s just ED. Sony/MS still have other games... it just means, the expansion is next gen only and the step will be set as a next/current gen titel. It’s aswell maybe not that way that microsoft wants to have for his Xbox system in the first 2 years, but it is still the choice from the developers where they want to deliver.

I said too, they will perform Elite good on last and current gen. But how many months/weeks/days takes it more because of the old one. Horizons got 2.0-2.7, just as a example i think this will done too with 3.0 now. 3.1, 3.2... and iam 90% sure ^^ all of this 3.? stuff Is part of odyssey and this means it will be delivered for Xbox one/Ps4 aswell, for maybe the next 2 years¿ So how will these updates look like¿ I‘m looking excited forward like you what will come, how will the roadmap look like. My question is only what will not part of it because of last gen.. do you think the old gen can handle ship interiors? Hm.. maybe.. but if not then it’s not part of 3.? but it should be..¿ xD is the old gen the reason why we not got aerodynamic pressure at atmosphere planets at the moment¿ we don’t know. and so on. We will not see what’s not in the game because of the last gen. It will run.. but is it fun¿ xD enough
In a few days we will know more what will happens next.

I think too odyssey will come to 90% for xbox1/Ps4. But they can always change their mind ^^ I just want to make a suggestion here because I just want to see Elite Dangerous like you all i think, at the best state in future.
