Odyssey Engineering Cheat Sheet

  2. It's EXTREMELY rediculous, stupid, and leaning on hostile to new players that none of this is explained ingame. Some simple flavor text would be great.
There are probably better ideas than this, but it would help even slightly if when scrolling through them (either from the ship storage menu or at the bar tender) that a smaller panel below the main list displayed the items that the upgrades could be used for.

That would save me having to ALT + TAB from the game to this list.

However, I think they have other things on their plate at the moment so I guess it's ALT + TAB for a while...

Here's an abreviated list I made this morning for Data ( not including eng. unlocks ). Just so I could look at one printed sheet for quick reference. Nothing fancy, just simple.
 
I've assembled an XLS meself too...
But i eventually dropped it in favor of Inara (Artie's material lists, inventory lists and crafting lists are quite nice, not without mistake, but still very nice)
I missed this, sorry. Do you have a link to those lists? What are they, player-maintained lists? If it looks feasible and complimentary to the first post I'll chuck some links in... (Especially if it helps the 'cheat' part of the thread title - just kidding...)
 
o7 CMDRs,

I've put together a cheat sheet for cross-referencing engineering items you find to the upgrades/modifications that can be made from them. I did this because my inner-hoarder likes to know why I am collecting the different things I pick up.

A few points:
  • This is taken from https://inara.cz so if there are mistakes there, they will propagate through to this;
  • On Inara, "Improved hip fire accuracy" and "Higher Accuracy" are synonymous; in this list, the term "Higher Accuracy" is used;
  • The links in the table take you directly to their Inara counterparts; links in the Usage column aren't always present since they are applicable to several suit or weapon types; in which case, the link in the first column is probably better to select, go to Inara and navigate to the upgrade you're interested in;
  • Furthermore there might be mistakes I have made in compiling this; if there is, please point out the error and reply to this thread with @Comandante so I get a notification; I'll update it as soon as I have time if this is the case;
  • The 'Engineer Referral' entry in the Usage column means that that is the engineer that will refer you, and now also includes information on who they will refer you to;
  • This is based off @Factabulous spread sheet that can be found here: original spread sheet - thanks @Factabulous

  • 06/07/2021: Fixed Circuit Board entry; was incorrectly reporting suit modifications for Audio Masking and Stowed Reloading whereas these are weapon mods, not suit mods;
  • 13/07/2021: Updated Extraction Yield Data row; was empty, now contains correct entry for kinetic mod Higher Accuracy;
  • 31/07/2021: Added Commander's Toolbox (underneath table, below);

also recommend the elite odessey material helper app. tells you about suits and materials required.and weapons mods too
 
92 (a quick, and possibly not entierly accurate, count) materials that has no purpose beyond selling, and are barely worth anything when you do. Which would be absolutely fine...if there was a reasonable in-game way to know what material is usefull and what isn't.
 
In my few months of playing i found some interesting tricks, not just including the supercruise station trick.
for farming material items i found some nice spots:

small satellite POI mission
Odessey mission for some mechanical part threat 2 or 3. Park within jumping distance from top of your ship (ship shields extend over your ship to cover you), on entering area use dumbfire missles to clear hostiles (wait for reinforcements and kill them too same way) then land with tail facing data port of satellite within sprint jump distance. after data gathered jump back on top of ship, relog. If enemy shows esc wait the 15 secs ( you are shielded so you will be fine ) and then relog. If no enemy jump to data port and gather. 4:5 times enemies show. There are some locations where no enemy will show, they are rare.

downed skimmers POI
go to war or civil war state systems, check out horizon missions that have surface recovery of something in (civil) war state in the 'transport' tab (need cargo space and a SRV). Look for one with SRV and 2 downed skimmers. Skimmers have a data port on them. No cost on cancel

Suit schematics: Large power stations main power room locked locker and upstairs in a locked locker 1:3 chance of a locker having a suit schematic. Arai's mine is very good for this as the fast farm is the CMD station, sec room and cmd room data ports, then over to the PWR building, 2 guards then loot. Hop back into ship just outside the CMD station and boost away at an inverted 50 degrees. exit SC just past the blue orbit (about 40k) reverse direction SC when ready right into glide back to the mine.
weapon schematics: larceny missions with 3 containers, relog after looting just don't get the mission loot.
power regulators: Find mission for some non-mechanical part, get to area and should say distress beacon threat 1. The one to find is a landed (not crashed) ship that has a open enough area just behind its engines for you to land. Go tail to tail (exit/boarding area) as close as possible so the ship can read the regulators that are present on the other ship. Hopefully you find one without enemy ( a few relogs will tell ). Then relog inside the ship. When a regulator shows, disembark grab and board then relog again. If you have enemy shooting you just relog, wait the 15 seconds for the danger exit, your shields are strong enough. Should get a good regulator in 1:4 Its faster than powerstation as you dont have to wait 3 minutes for shut down and possibly no enemies.

Settlement reset fast: Exit, lift gear boost to negative 65 degrees, inverted, supercruise. Then when past the blue line, you start to speed up from 250 km/s supercruise state, count 2 seconds then finished the loop rotating back to settlement you just left. you get to glide almost right away at 45 degrees or so, perfect glide. after glide at about 3-4 km out lower landing gear and then land at same area you left. You will be lined up the same.
