Odyssey Engineering Cheat Sheet

o7 CMDRs,

I've put together a cheat sheet for cross-referencing engineering items you find to the upgrades/modifications that can be made from them. I did this because my inner-hoarder likes to know why I am collecting the different things I pick up.

A few points:
  • This is taken from https://inara.cz so if there are mistakes there, they will propagate through to this;
  • On Inara, "Improved hip fire accuracy" and "Higher Accuracy" are synonymous; in this list, the term "Higher Accuracy" is used;
  • The links in the table take you directly to their Inara counterparts; links in the Usage column aren't always present since they are applicable to several suit or weapon types; in which case, the link in the first column is probably better to select, go to Inara and navigate to the upgrade you're interested in;
  • Furthermore there might be mistakes I have made in compiling this; if there is, please point out the error and reply to this thread with @Comandante so I get a notification; I'll update it as soon as I have time if this is the case;
  • The 'Engineer Referral' entry in the Usage column means that that is the engineer that will refer you, and now also includes information on who they will refer you to;
  • This is based off @Factabulous spread sheet that can be found here: original spread sheet - thanks @Factabulous

Fixes/Updates:
  • 06/07/2021: Fixed Circuit Board entry; was incorrectly reporting suit modifications for Audio Masking and Stowed Reloading whereas these are weapon mods, not suit mods;
  • 13/07/2021: Updated Extraction Yield Data row; was empty, now contains correct entry for kinetic mod Higher Accuracy;
  • 31/07/2021: Added Commander's Toolbox (underneath table, below);
  • 12/08/2021: Incorrect entries: removed Kinetic: Higher Accuracy for Electromagnet; removed Plasma, Kinetic: Higher Accuracy for Weapon Component;

I am a compulsive harder in real life, so it's been important for me to keep on top of things in Odyssey, especially with the material limits.

For example, I'll probably never add Damage Resistance to a suit, so I've capped my Ballistics Data at 10 now that I know that's all it's used for - so if I did want to I still could. Helps stops me stacking things beyond what I'd realistically need. Same for Compression-Liquefied Gas - it's only used on Kinetic Weapons for Greater Range, and even then for only 1 of them - which meant I could get rid of a shed load of those items!

Just one thing ... the header row of your cheat sheet appears to be white text on a white background (edit: oh - I see you already know that).
Also, you mention an "Engineer referral column" but I'm not seeing it.

Well spotted.

  • For some reason the forum colours were washing out the table header BB entry; I've changed them to standard table headers now with bold text;
  • Changed the text for Engineer Referral to talk about the entries in the 'Usage' column

I might add Odyssey engineers and how to knowing one finds another. There are three we know and each opens two other engineers. You decide how to use this information. Inara is doing their best to be accurate but maybe not at the moment.

Domino Green - Orishis (common knowledge)
Travel at least 100 LY in shuttles.
Provide 5 units of push.

Kit Fowler - Capova
Sell 20 opinion polls to bartenders.
Provide 5 units of surveillance equipment.

Yarden Bond - ???
Sell 8 smear campaigns to bartenders.
Provide ???

Hero Ferrari - Siris (common knowledge)
Complete 10 surface conflict zones.
Provide 15 Settlement Defense Plans.

Wellington Beck - Jolapa

Uma Laszio - Xuane
Ready unfriendly reputation or lower with Sirius Corporation.

Excellent list:) I would also recommend EDEngineer, the inventory tracking and 'shopping list' for mats and data has really taken the sting out of keeping track of what is needed for mods and upgrades.

Wow, I didn't know about that. Looks cool - best thing for me is there's source code and it's an MIT license.

EDEngineer is awesome but for Odyssey it's unsuable. I have the same material split in several quantities and EDEngineer cannot work with this.
Even if I add the material count manually directly in the tool it just resets after restart.

These kind of issues are irritating and simply stupid :(

Excellent news! Community is once again quicker in creating a bypass than FDev is in fixing things.
Thank RNG gods I don't have to care about the split inventory anymore.

I've assembled an XLS meself too...
But i eventually dropped it in favor of Inara (Artie's material lists, inventory lists and crafting lists are quite nice, not without mistake, but still very nice)

I've updated the spread sheet with more accurate information regarding this, especially who gives a referral to who; also updated the engineer names with the Inara links for quick-reference.

thanks for your positive responses, really glad that you've made some use from it.

There were mistakes here and there namely with missing items in the 'Usage' column; however, the purpose of adding the Inara URLs directly to their items and upgrade/mod information was so that it would be more useful when you want to (if you want to) 'drill down' through the layers of upgrades you want on a per data/material basis.

I've gone through each link and checked the information held in the cross-references in the table here; I think there nearly there, I'd say the information is now 99% accurate.
