Odyssey Horizons Comparison Thread

Hello everyone,

I'm starting this thread in the hopes of creating a collective comparison thread where we show the differences between Horizons and Odyssey, both good and bad.

I'll kick it off with some unfortunate examples that show the extreme downgrade in terrain quality. I am very very very sad to see the incredible Horizons terrain go and hope it's not too late to keep them.

Sommerfeld Enterprise in Ross 671

Farseer Inc in Deciat (engineer base, hand crafted in the new planet system to look the same - look at that horrible blobby lack of sharp edges)
It's almost as if a "fan" remade the base in Unity.

Lighting system much darker and emmisive decals not working very well

Some additional Farseer comparisons because the downgrade is really, really bad: here and here.

Please FDEV - Can we keep the incredible Horizons planetary tech system? Incorporate your atmospheric effects, some new rocks and call it a day.

The Farseer base looks like there's just more light. I wonder what it would look like in the dark in Odyssey.
Looking at Neutron Stars, station interiors (where the landing pads are), lens flares on some occasions (data points) and my Commander's Holo Me, I think there's definitely something wrong with the shaders though.
 
Here's another Farseer comparison. The terrain textures and ridge sharpness looks so much worse in Odyssey.

Very simple cracks and creases you would find in Horizons terrain just doesn't exist anymore in the new system. It's all smoothed over like a really old game.

It is not just more light. Look at the lack of detail/sharpness on these edges. Their new heightmap system doesn't like them.

Yeah. This looks more like light-scattering though, which is why the shadows are not that sharp.
The planet doesn't have an atmosphere though and I doubt the lighting system is taking dust into account. So whatever it is, it's wrong.

Are they all taken on the same graphics settings? To me, your Odyssey shots just look like the graphics have been turned down, so arent getting the full high-res versions of the terrain!
 
Just been to Farseer Inc and have to agree it's not the most beautiful planet, prefer the Horizons one too. I think it's just a different planetary tech results - some planets look better in Odyssey, some do in Horizons.
