Odyssey in autumn????

If we get nothing until then, how long would it have been since there was any new content released on console by "Autumn"?*

*Based on a reasonably accurate definition of Autumn, say, by the middle of October.

Depends on what you defintion of "content" is, anything new?=fleet carriers (so about 16 months since launch)
Actual new game play/ships?= FSS/Mamba-Kraits so from Dec 2018( so about 33 months if we get the update in September)

Great, just made myself sad.

I'm not accepting this "due to Covid / lockdown" excuse for the delay. Software development is inherently suitable for remote teams: my team has been working 100% remotely since March last year and it has not impacted our ability to deliver (I'm based in the UK, unfortunately). Half the time when I was in the office I'd Slack a dev to get their attention anyway so it makes little difference us being in our houses instead.

I'd have more respect for Frontier if they just came out and said that they are prioritising development effort on PC so unfortunately consoles will come a bit later. This excuse that Covid related lockdown restrictions has caused the delay is just lazy.

Sorry for making you feel sad, if it is any concelation, i as a PS CMDR also feel sad and to be conpletely honest, badly let down.

The consequences of not having enough time & resources is what you saw with the CyberPunk console release.
Choices:
a) Release as is together with PC and ignore the obvious problems. Raging consumers, lost revenue and reputation for a period.
b) Delay until enough time spent to work it out to get sufficient quality. (Sufficient does not equal bugfree though, it never does). Unhappy consumers because delay, investors not too unhappy since PC release is within deadlines.
c) Delay other projects in FDev and bring in people from these. Other unhappy customers for the other products and unhappy investors since those deadlines are moving.
d) Hire more people and train them to use FDev processes, game engines and tooling. Uncertain delay, higher costs.

Of all the bad choices I think FDev found a good compromise.

I think that's also what they've got by delaying it until Sep/Oct.

To make it a little worse, by the time they do bring it out on console the base PS4 which they're targeting will be 9 years old, the PS5 will be a year old, and more CMDRs will have made the switch. I can't imagine many will be too tempted by a delayed, premium priced DLC that runs in a low resolution, legacy backwards compatible mode. Confidence in Frontier's commitment to console development for Elite Dangerous has to be at an all time low. Elite looks tired and old on the PS5 now as it is.

Autumn is far away and with the current rate of PS5 sales they wont be many PS4 players left that will wait for Odyssay. I know it would work on PS5 too but imagine how it will look next to real next gen games made for PS5. Not inspiring.

There is nothing on console like ED and the wait will be worth it, I'm in a 490+ squadron with 30+ online cmdrs from all over the world active everyday with many other squadrons as active and large getting high leaderboard points.

If Elder Scrolls 6 or GTA 6 came out soon then yea nvm.

Are all of your squadron mates playing on console?

My friends play across all three platforms. For six months half of us will be hanging around in space, while the others are partying on planets and posting the results to youtube and reddit. Sorry FDev, not acceptable.

Same here. It's bad enough having to have separate Squadrons. If they wanted to kill the game on console this is the right way of going about it.

Yes, im in Pilot Syndicate 4. Always 20-35+ online, that's just one of many active squadron on PS4. Just a FYI the leaderboards is only on the platform you play on, when you look at that you can see how active the game is, when you look at stream views it's low as ED isn't a stream friendly game unless you're extremely social. That can change with Odyssey.
