Odyssey - more legs than "just" stations/planet bases/planets

Ship Interiors
While Odyssey will see players explore a wide range of on and off world locations including station interiors, ......

we believe it is right to invest our development time in locations and features which offer the most meaningful experience and gameplay for all players. Rest assured that Odyssey will offer a great variety of long requested locations to explore, both on land and in space.......

From the recent news FDev have posted, it's seesm to me that there will be a number of off world locations to explore with legs, other than just stations. We know they have confirmed legs on planets, planetary base settlements (hubs) and now station interiors...but the words highlighted above suggest there will definitely be other places to walk around in space other than stations.

This is an interesting angle to me. Could it be salvage wreckage ? or space debris?
Anyone with any further insight?

Yep those were some interesting new dabs of info.

The confirmation of off-world / space locations made me wonder if some megaships might get opened up? (Possibly even some of the 'lost' megaships with audio logs etc? Although in theory they're all abandoned, so not sure what the gameplay would be there precisely).

I'm still holding fire on believing full blown space stations have some interiors opened up. As you say, the largest location we've had confirmed is planetary ports. They're so comparable in function that, even though I know Arf's used the term 'station' there, I'm just waiting for some more explicit confirmation. (Just in case they're actually still referring to ports, or possibly to space outposts alone.)

I also wouldn't read any of the above as confirmation of space EVA. It seemed pretty clearly to be about interiors.

Could be very cool though, if they have opened up space stations. Even if just select locations. We know from ancient concept art that they've considered making the arrival bay itself a 'Legs' area. Scale and vibe could be off the chart ;)

I would assume that just means limited walkable hubs on (some? all?) space-based starports as opposed to just on the ground. Maybe some areas to walk around near the landing bays as well (wouldn't be hard to do).

Previously, they'd only shown concept art of surface settlements and ambiguous interior layouts, so this is indeed the first suggestion of space-space-legs, but I wouldn't get my hopes too high about exploring derelicts and such.

Though it's certainly possible and would be phenomenally cool if true.

Another thing I would like to do is drive my SRV around a starport interior. There's a road network (with the little on-rail trucks currently) plus ramps leading down into the superstructure, presumably to further, hidden roads. But that's a pie-in-the-sky thing.

The thing is though, they used quite specific words " Rest assured that Odyssey will offer a great variety of long requested locations to explore, both on land and in space....... "

So they are creating locations to explore in space...or at least making existing ones explorable. The words " long requested" being paramount here.

So what has been "long requested"? and comes in a "great variety" ?

I wouldn't be surprised to see Fleet Carriers opened up as another space location although that wouldn't constitute as "long requested," since they only came out this year. Perhaps Megaships and/or Generation Ships? (Wishful thinking: Thargoid motherships?)

I'm not going to expect anything beyond that for the variety of other space locations.

On planets? There's always the possibility that we'll be delving on foot into Thargoid structures...

Space stations are in space though.

The accessible concourses could have as many cosmetic variations as the starport interiors do, then you have something similar at outposts, maybe, but without the artificial gravity (magnetic boots). Maaaaybe we'll get to walk around the Fleet Carriers too.

Then you could have maybe fifteen or twenty basic surface installation types, with some procedural layout variation on top of that. Some transient surface POIs with interiors (solitary buildings etc.) Surface starports with social hubs. Some underground hideouts (like in the trailer). Some Thargoid and Guardian surface site interiors. A few "open air" locations built with on-foot activities in mind.

I think these are the things we can kind of assume will be in it as a rough baseline (from various glimpses of art, vague statements, leaks, and inferences based on current gameplay). "Great variety" is quite arbitrary, and that even that amount of stuff would probably qualify as such. And several of those things are "long requested", especially walking in stations.

In fact, though I'd love to see salvage, I think the number of requests for walking in stations eclipses that.

Again, it's possible and it will be amazing if it's in there, but I definitely feel like major salvage gameplay and exploring huge derelicts is out on the periphery of what's likely.

This one is well versed in the art of keeping a firm lid on hopes by understanding how to identify potential ambiguity and adjusting expectations in response to it. A dying but necessary art.

Currently there are already roads/driveways on the walled planetary starports, and all planetary ports allow exiting the docking pads using the SRV. Unfortunately, at this time all of this is mere scenery, as there's nothing to interact with either on the planetary ports or anywhere near them, and any other planetary POIs or facilites are always thousands of kms away form the ports. Perhaps those roads / SRV exits on ports will finally play some role other than sightseeing.

It'll be a single space-weatherspoons pub in Sol, where you get cheap beer, cheap escorts, and stuck to the floor, despite the toilets being nicely cleaned.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean.

No further insight, but you're not alone in wondering about that line. We're all assuming - probably reasonably- that eva would come when ships were explorable. But ... ach, who knows, lets wait and see

That would be awesome, maybe even certain mission givers or objectives based on the installation type, such as combat operations from military installations, or exobiology missions from scientific stations.
What about settlement missions from minutemen stations?

The possibilities are endless. Maybe Minor Faction expansions would lead to settlers from these factions colonizing planets in the system they expanded to. This could potentially cause conflicts with rival settlements in the vicinity. Bringing PowerPlay to a microscopic localized version of multiple settlements or towns in a planet vying for power. I think I'm getting a little too carried away with my hype but that is a genius idea Andro, thanks for sharing!
