Odyssey Plus with ED has injured my eyes

Yeah, i used a ruler in front of a mirror and came to the same result than my optician 2 months ago and the IPD is noticed (L and R separated) on my eyeglass pass with all other data.

Sell your 8KX to me, solves your problem and then I can carry the burden for you :) Yup, I'm about as deep as an oil stain....

BTW how did you get the 8KX, have they launched?

Sorry to disappoint but no 8KX in my or anyone's hand yet. Final versions not even in Pimax Martin / Sweviver's hands, or Seb MRTV etc. Near final version being shown off at the VR events. User experiences coming in on the forums - new res + lack of SDE, reduction in edge distortion, and lightweight comfort with the MAS + CK kits is very well received.

You can order now, backer versions are theoretically shipping December but we'll see. Everyone else Jan-Feb

The IPD is the distance between the centre of your eyes when looking straight forward. You can have a friend measure it with a ruler. For example, I measured mine at 65 mm. When I last had my eyes tested the optometrist used an electronic gizzmo to do the same thing and came up with 65 mm on the first reading and 65.5 mm on a second reading.

As for not giving that information to you, that's just borderline rude. The measurement is used for eyeglasses prescriptions which the optometrist is usually happy to provide (although he would prefer that you buy your glasses from the same place), so IMO the optometrist is just trying to make sure he gets your business by withholding information.

Indeed and have made my own measurements for my headsets, but would be nice to have official ones while I'm there. I'm sure I'll be able to get the info on the day (y)

49 here and using an Oculus Rift-S. I bought the first Rift on release day and went on directly to the Rift-S, also on release day - so around 4 years of VR for me. I roughly play around 10 hours a week and i work in an office, so monitors and VR are being used frequently.
So far, VR has had no noticible effect on my visual perception. I don‘t wear glasses in RL.

Does your experience include extended use of the Samsung Odyssey+? We've observed that other headsets are fine.

The Odyssey+ might just be too bright. I've had some long term eye discomfort from having a monitor in front of a bright window or a bright monitor in a dim room, could be the same effect

Yes, pretty extended for the last year or so. I went 8 hours once on the O+ in ED, darn near straight 8 hours other than 2 bathroom breaks and eating really quickly. I saw a new eye doctor in the past year he told me I suddenly had a severe astigmatism that has never happened before. I didn't think much of it as he said it was normal with age but I was pretty frustrated. I saw another eye doctor for a 2nd opinion and he showed a astigmatism, but minor. Also my eyes have always been correctable to 20/10, and now its only 20/15. Again, both of these things are within range of normal aging - but now this thread has me overthinking it :)

Now that is interesting. My first optician said my degradation was expected. My second said it was an unusual rate of decline she'd not seen before. Now my eyes have recovered, the verb doesn't cause any significant strain and my vision only stays blurry for about half a day. I'm using it way more intensively than the O+

Yes, I am not convinced that the O+ hurts my eyes. But I do know that all of us using VR are part of a grand experiment with our eyes - and brains. It usually takes 20 years and a wide group of the population before they can correlate all the causes of something. Yes, there will probably be some eye impacts on some of us depending on genetics, length of exposure, etc. So you are right to bring this up and certainly could be on to something.

But that 8 hour session did hurt my equilibrium. After I was through gaming I was dizzy and lightheaded. Certainly it has happened before and I just wait for it to go away. I went to bed and figured I would sleep it off. All the next morning I was still very dizzy and found I would catch myself almost falling. I am not over emphasizing it. It was like light beds spins until around noon and fortunately it went away, but it was uncomfortable. So my equilibrium was impacted for quite some time after that long session. Was that the 0+, or just too much time in VR, my age and genetics, not a fast enough GPU to satisfy my brains discountenance, etc? Again, this is part of the experiment we are all part of. But my use of VR is not going anywhere! :)

I have a blurred vision problem i suspected from using VR since DK2 and now VivePro.
To me it looks like vertical ghosting most easily noticed in text but affects everything in distance.
I think maybe there could be a problem with the fact we do not re focus for distant objects in VR, as its all the same focus level.
And there could be a problem with any small(tiny) missalignment of the screens/lenses vertically, which your brain will adjust to and affect normal vision after.

Get checked for Diabetes... I'm a sufferer and unmanaged or untreated can really affect your eyes.
Good point, I don't have a problem now, however I did for awhile with blood sugar and compromising my eyes. Nothing to do with drinking 2lt fat coke daily for a couple of years. Optician referred me for blood testing but I didn't bother. Didn't take a rocket scientist to equate the consumption to my vision. About two weeks after I stopped my eyes were back to normal. I generally don't have sugar at all now.

About to go on hols and taking my O+ with me to play and then to flog it. After the Reverb it will be interesting to go back and compare the effect.

Pushing 60 here, 2+ years using vr, Rift, and now Rift S. I've needed glasses for the last 15 or so years, near and far. When I first got the Rift I had to wear reading glasses inside. Now, it seems my eyes have adjusted, and I no longer need to wear anything while using vr. Happened prior to the headset change so nothing to do with moving to the Rift S. Don't know what it means, or adds to the conversation, but our eyes are definitely affected.
