Odyssey Settlement Status

o7 cmdrs,

I see in the ED Wiki that:
Settlements can be found in one of nine states, which affect the activities available there and the presence of colonists and security forces: Active, Abandoned, War, Damaged, Online, Online Damaged, Offline, Offline Damaged, and Conflict Zone.

But where do I find this information in-game?

Have checked the system map, and the settlement info, but only ever see if a settlement is in conflict or not, and the state of the faction that occupies the settlement.

Reason for asking is that I'm looking for active/online settlements that belong to a particular faction so I can complete some missions I have to clear them out. But all their settlements are offline when I arrive at them ... presumably because the faction in question is currently in a state of civil unrest.

Does anyone know if the settlement states above can be seen & checked from the system map, to save me wasting time visiting them all?

Or should I just pay attention to the faction state in future before taking any missions?

All the states that cause settlements to be unpopulated are the negative ones. All the states that cause CZ are the War states. So just go to ones that don't have negative / war states. Sounds like what you really want is how to find Odyssey Massacre missions though - which may be a different question ...

Edit: Do you have a link to that wiki article? I don't see a list on the wiki I found and would like to check if they have a source for that list

No I can find the missions easily enough. I have three to complete but it looks like all the settlements the faction owns are currently offline. Must be because they are in a state of civil unrest.

I thought there might be some way to easily see which settlements were active from the system map - if the states exist, as per the wiki article, where do we see this information?

Or do I just have to go off the faction state?

I'll probably have to fail these missions. But for the future, I'm not sure how to determine if the faction settlements will all be online ahead of taking any mission.

yeah, still waiting for you to link that...

I think ... initial ownership of settlement was "given" as it can't be empty on Ody update. Now BGS working on proper ownership set.
For example, I met settlement owned by main fraction in system with 50%+, but there are 2 other fractions with 8% each do a war inside it.
So what I say, despite what map says, that settlements may not really belong to fraction yet.

Hmm, interesting

  • Active - obvious - but how is it different from Online?
  • abandoned - empty ... maybe the variant with no dead bodies or fires?
  • war - again - how is this different from Conflict Zone?
  • damaged - maybe the ones on fire
  • Online - sounds like Active ..
  • Online Damaged - no idea - never seen an Online (Active?) base with any damage?
  • Offline - how different from abandoned ?
  • Offline Damaged - offline, maybe with fires?
  • Conflict Zone - again, how different from wars

A bit sad when even the small amounts of information fdev do give us seem to have little relation to what is actually in the game ...

Well that all sounds cool ... but again, where is this info in-game?
Who knows ... just guessing out what I see now :D
...also I feel like settlement flips status faster then stations, can do on each BGS tick. Like today I wiped it 20 times, tomorrow it will be offline and bodies everywhere.

1 fraction owns it, 2 others rent to do a fight there -- everything inside is online, reactor is ON. - that what I found, confilct zone of 2 fractions and 3rd owner
Interesting - don't think I've seen a CZ like that (but I haven't been doing that many :) )

I noticed something weird a couple of days ago. I was running cargo to a settlement while its owner was in Infrastructure Failure, then picked up a lucrative ship mission there and completed it. When I went to the large orbital nearby I saw missions to kill scavengers at the same settlement (!). Now I've done a couple of reactivation missions there.

It was in daylight every time I was there so it wasn't obvious if the lights were out, but it seems possible that I was selling cargo and running missions at a settlement that's been powered down. Which (if true) is great from the standpoint of fighting an Infrastructure Failure, but a bit strange if you view it any other way.

..hmm...I just recalled I was 2-3 times in that exact settlement during 3 days, and I was killing some guys with access 3.
Now we have combat of 2 different fractions there...so
could my kills be preparation to invade settlement.? I.e. I killed big-bosses, people went out (but owner still remains), and now 2 other small fractions try to take it?
Wow...that..that could be real cool.

Hmm, I guess I should keep an eye on the settlement boards and see if the states show up there - I vaguely think they don't ...

I'm going back to check that one in a bit, but I don't trust the terminals to tell me anything except where things are. Terminals have told me that a settlement's owned by the system controller (when it's not) and that the entire staff are members of yet another faction (when they don't seem to be).

Well, problem solved for now. Found an Irregular Marker (Threat 3) where plenty of the criminal faction were hiding. They were even kind enough to supply a few waves of reinforcements so I could get my full mission quota.

Agreed - I haven't been trusting them - but I can't see how fdev came up with so many states from what I see on the ground so I'm hoping there is a clue on the boards. Probably isn't though 🤷‍♀️
