Odyssey VR specific bug reports - please contribute!

That’s very odd regarding orbital lines! I’ve checked with my Quest 2 + Quest 3, and users of Reverb G2, Big Screen Beyond, HTC Vive, Rift S, Quest Pro, Valve Index, and other Q2/3 users have all confirmed the issue.

I found that a gas giant with lots of landable moons is a good way of seeing the issue - plenty of orbital rings to see when within 3.5Ls of a landable body.

As for the view glitch - do you have a perfect, uninterrupted view when jumping to SuperCruise? There’s not even a momentary flicker of the image in your headset? Sometimes the view can reposition to just a blank area of the HUD so the glitch is not very noticeable.
I can confirm the bug with the orbit lines is also on the Pimax 8K.

The issue report has now garnered a lot of votes - if/when it gets Acknowledged by FDev it’ll be at position #11 in the popularity chart, and the most voted for VR issue.

Edit: now it would be at position #8 which I think is the highest a VR issue has ever made - the previous high scorer being the nonexistent orbit lines in FSS mode which eventually got the big Nope after a few years hovering around the Top 20.

For everyone else's sake, I hope they fix it. But I never turn that feature on, so it really is a non-issue for me. I never understood the point of orbital lines, honestly.

Personally, I've found that having orbit lines turned on helps immensely when I want to get to my destination quickly. My chief complaint about them is that the orbital/exclusion zones don't show up unless you're on a collision course with them and close enough for it to matter. And that since the update the lines are thick enough to make it even more difficult to see where exactly smaller/dimmer moons are, which were already harder to see after the switch from the 3.8 client to the 4.x one.

same here. Yesterday I saw orbital lines on one eye only. very disturbing. Also black "tiles" flickering in the edges of the view. I assume that's new since last update. Probably some tomato sauce code making an unwanted connection between two spaghetti code functions.

…you lucky, lucky VR people! No fixes for the existing problems but we get a new VR specific issue instead: going to Livery will immediately revert your paint job to the default scheme and set it at a high wear level - but only for the duration of the Livery screen, so you can’t check out any paint jobs or anything. Some ships (like the new Mandalay and Type 8) have z-fighting as an added bonus! 😅

I’ll submit a report and link it here when done 👍

Edit: …and here it is:
See if you can spot the difference between these two screens:

It's subtle, but I hope you can see it!

How nice of them! Just for us! #blessed

@Helmut Grokenberger - I don’t have any issues when selecting the Territory tab in the PP screen, it goes to the Galaxy map without any problem. I’ve tried all PP tabs, no crashes.

@JR250 - all the PP help screens are slightly unpleasant to look at in VR as you’ve said elsewhere. I’ll stick a report in though I doubt anything will be done about it as the screens are readable and they’re only up when you’re joining PP.

My game crashes reliably when I select "strategic view" at the bottom on the PP system details on the right hand bar. You know, the one that shows the range sphere around the selected system.

I take it I was looking at the wrong thing? 😅

My apologies, I’ll try again now 👍

Edit: aye, immediate CTD - I’ll get a report whipped up now.
Edit2: flatscreen game is fine, it’s a VR specific problem.
Edit3: …confirmations will be gratefully accepted:

By the way, I have this tingling fear we will get more and more VR issues over time. Seems nobody checks VR compatibility anymore when adding fixes or features - the orbit line one is pretty severe, the layering of the PP intro screens, now this.... doesn't feel good.
These are things discovered within minutes of putting on a headset, so yes, I’m afraid I have to share those feelings.

I think there isn’t anyone at Frontier who has a passion for VR, like the sort that led to the initial implementation of VR for Elite in the DK2. Considering VR was going to be dropped completely for Odyssey - I think that tells the level of enthusiasm for VR there is in the company 😅

Fixes do still happen and I hope our bug reports are useful, so I hope my fellow goggle heads will spend a few minutes to add confirmations to any VR bugs they encounter and shift their votes from any fixed (but still marked as live) issues - one of the three fixed-live bugs at the moment has a reasonable amount of votes attached to it that could be better used elsewhere.
