Odyssey VR specific bug reports - please contribute!

Oh, I have never seen rings disappear entirely, but I have often (not something new) found myself wondering if all texture layers load every time, because sometimes I get only the colour bands, and sometimes only the cloudy texture, or plain flat and grey, but specular, bands...

(I have no flatscreen testimonial.)

The weirdly coloured rings can be voted for here - there is a more recent unconfirmed report but I think it is a duplicate problem.

New issue report: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/54638 - EDO crashes on Oculus startup - which looks like one of the graphics settings they’ve changed is causing the problem?

They state they’ve changed some settings and run the game successfully, but (I think) some don’t take effect unless you restart the game - so that might be where the crash has originated.

Anyone know what the attached error code is on about?

Might the reporting party be using some sort of API wrapper, such as OpenComposite, wrapping OpenVR calls from the game to the Oculus runtime, instead of having it address said runtime directly, using Oculus' API, as it normally would?

...because it looks like something you could get when straying from the Meta walled garden; I have recently seen screenshots of similar messages (EDIT: Note the: "IAPEntitlement" thing), from people who run games bought off the Oculus store, on non-Oculus headsets.

In regards to shadow flickering in VR, I have found that setting directional shadows to Medium or lower gets rid of the issue. Potato shadows but at least they aren't flickering any more.

I have everything set to Ultra or High where that is top, except Directional Shadows which is set to Low, and my 3090Ti gets great FPS except for station menus that are 36 FPS. If I set directional Shadows even to medium, I get strobing shadows in VR, but I can stretch the screen across 3 QHD monitors out of VR and have Directional set to High, and still get super FPS and no strobing.

It's stranger than that though, it is worst if I take my FDL out for a spin, in that, and only that, I get strobing shadows on Low, in the hangar, I get broken flourescent light effects... I really don't get it, the Imperial Courier has about the same cockpit view and it doesn't do it. Glass bubble cockpits don't and nor do narrow windows.

Not guaranteed to have any effect, but it might be worth a try, at least, hopping into windows graphics settings, and making sure Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is set:"off" (EDIT: ...and the same goes for any other "game mode" type stuff Microsoft tries to foist on you, to the point that if you do have them switched off, they keep reactivating them behind your back, during Windows updates.)

I doubt it. Because that silly screen is what they gave us (VR cmdrs) after we vocally gave out big time prior to launch when they said they'd be dropping VR altogether.

New issue report: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/55060 - Odyssey has some weird VR bug? - which is probably the longest issue report I’ve ever seen… and it’s just a disguised moan about the virtual flatscreen.

Still, it’s got one confirmation already - I’m sure this will be the way we finally get full VR in EDO 😂👍
Whilst I feel kind of rude adding a confirmation, I think the odd nudge every now and then is justified ;)

Oh l concur..get them silly things off. They cap the gpu to about 70% max usage.
Mind you the switch off the background apps switch in win 11 does make a difference I leave that on.

Just to reiterate my “😂👍” emojis - I share your doubt 😁

You’ve convinced me - I’ve added a confirmation too 😅

New issue report: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/55228 - System chat clears when you look at it - which I think is the sixth time this has been reported since November 2021.

The most confirmations it has previously received was 5, hopefully now that automatic Expiry doesn’t seem to occur it might finally go the distance. I’ll be adding my confirmations shortly 👍

New issue report: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/55307 - Rift S stutter then blackscreen - which appears to be a random occurrence.

It’s not something I’ve seen in the Quest 2, though I do occasionally get the massive performance drop when leaving concourses (https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/36142) which causes the Q2 screen to mess up (the bottom quarter or so loses all shadows and looks flatly lit with a definite band across the screen) which persists until restarting the headset - possibly this new report is something similar?

I think this one refers to Elite skipping the launcher dialogue and launching Odyssey automatically when you launch in VR mode from Steam. The launcher is started (and kept running, not like the Epic version where the launcher is closed when the game loads - what a pain), but the mode selection is skipped and instead it goes directly to Odyssey. To play Horizons you have to launch in VR, start Odyssey, quit, and then select Horizons form the launcher.
