Publisher? Again sorry for my ignorance
Someone more knowledgeable than I can chime in, but usually you have a developer studio and a publisher. Think of Grand Theft Auto which is developed by Rockstar studios, but published by Take-Two Interactive. Or how World of Warcraft is developed by Blizzard Entertainment but published via Activision. A developer develops the game, but the publisher funds them while providing marketing, consultation, hashing out deals with retailers etc.
The publisher is the daddy and gives the developers, its kid, an allowance. Some daddy's are more affluent than others. Frontier doesn't have a publisher but is still funded by secret daddys (shareholders). I guess they're step-dads in this case. Frontier may be on it's own and not under the branch of a publisher, but it still gets funded by stepdads being that they're a publicly traded company. In Fortnite's case, Epic Games is a pretty large house compared to Frontier.
