Off to Sag A, and Elite Explorer Rank!

And Neutron World! And the Great Annhilator! In a shieldless Dolphin! With no AFMU!

 Oh God, what have I done?! This is like circling Africa in a rented kayak...

Well good luck, its doable I`m sure! Watch out for those jump stars, every jump will damage your FSD slightly - I would invest in at least one maintenance unit!

No AFMU is totally legit. I made my trip to SagA* and back and used AFMU once only - and because I was curious how it works. I had 2 issues on the whole journey - came too close to a star while attempting to speed up scooping (I blame orbit lines lag, they don't appear sometimes at all or with a large delay) and once I approached a planet bit too fast. Apart from those two I made 55k LYs loop without the need of AFMU.

If you intend to use neutron highway - pretty much mandatory. Other way you'll make just few neutron jump and then leave that method as your drive will fail.

Nope, no neutron highway. I've used it before, but the damage involved in it -- especially when I have damage-shy passengers on board -- make it too dicey. Just lots of jumps.

And you know what? It's not a big deal, just repetitive. With an engineered FSD the dolphin hops about 35-37ly per go, and it's a quick fueler too; with a 4A scoop it slurps itself full by the time I've curved around the star and aimed at the next system. Never thought I'd enjoy flying the tallywacker-with-wings, but there it is.

Hats off to you. I wont leave home without an AFM (and/or repair limpet controller) and at least the smallest shield I can fit for a little bump and grind insurance. I liken it to Lewis and Clark leaving the tool box at home, what could go wrong? ;)

Working on making this trip myself soon to get me into Elite explorer rank. The problem is I keep coming up with other things to do first.

Shiny Objects is a mini-game in Elite. I want to return to the core eventually too. Have they fixed the galaxy map issues in the core? The one trip I made to Sag was painful for plotting routes which is why I generally avoid the core region.

You do know, that after a while it stops being a "passenger cruise" and becomes a kidnapping, right? ;)

Heh. Yeah. Yamiks hit that note pretty well in his Dolphin review video.

Parked inside a star's corona: "Ask me! Ask me one more time to jump 3000 lightyears so you can buy pants!! Hehehe, smells like cooked meat!!"

Currently doing a passenger mission that was 21k LY away, flew there, then Sag A and was half way to Beagle but then turned around as I realised i wouldn't make it back in time - my passenger was probably like you know the bubble is the other way right

Gets me thinking, what is the furtherst tourist location right now?

Im homing in on the Great Annhilator atm in my cutter. Wouldn't go anywhere now, outside the bubble, without at least one AFMU, expecting to return via NS's.

Not going to Sag A* on this trip, Iv already visited it a few times already.

Yep, I passed through the core recently (came in from the west to Colonia, then the Great Annihilator, Sag A* and back out to the west) and it had no problem plotting any distance asked.

I was last in the core maybe 7 months ago and I remember the painfully slow plotting times. There was an algorithm once that helped a lot, it figured out that the problem in the core was due to the relative values of your jump range and the distance - if it didn't go in even enough it would try to over-optimise and bog itself down trying too many combinations. Or something to that effect, apologies for the non-technical explanation :D

Okay, that was a cool moment. I just jumped into Neutron World; for the last nine jumps my son sat in my lap and helped. He’s two. His job was to press the J.

Yup. Forumdad here. Owning it.

Yeah, you won't need an AMFU to get to Sag A* and back. I went to Sag A*, to the roof of the Galaxy, back to Colonia, and then to the bubble without an AMFU. I landed really gently once I got there, though. Really gently.

Well, then.

Nice to know that after 800 hours in game, I'm still finding new and creative ways to be a moron.

Got through two of three stops on this trip without incident. Hopped into Neutron World and Great Annihilator, scanned tourist beacons, buggered off before getting scanned, all good. At Sag A, I dropped into the tourist trap, targeted the beacon, forgot to drop my throttle, checked my surroundings, and ran spang into the forking beacon. BAM. Knocked my hull down to about 45% and scared the living crap out of my passengers. Y'know, the ones who are all damage-averse and promptly ejected. Hope they all learned what an event horizon is, the cowards.

Sat there in disbelief for a minute, then stuck my tail between my legs and limped back to Colonia. The truly ignominious part? Eighty million credits worth of cartographic data left me three -- THREE -- percent shy of Elite Explorer.

Feel free to post a Nelson Muntz meme below this. I thoroughly earned it...

Hard luck, CMDR.

in my experience one neutron jump usually deduces 1-2% of my fsd. I repair every 4th N-jump, thats usually around 96%
but I swapped out y dolphin for an asp to have the space for 2 afmus..stupid me forgot a shield generator so having those two repair things is a godsend

in my experience you don't Need to repair before you hit 80%. That's where the failures start to occur.
