Horizons Offensive content of Newsletter #184

I am extremely disappointed at the cartoon element at the bottom of newsletter 184 under the heading "PRIORITIES. THIS DAD KNOWS THEM".
Here on the forum and Frontier Developments in general come down hard on commanders' use of foul or offensive language, when they are guilty of such crass double standards.
I allowed a young and I might say impressionable lad to open my copy of newsletter 184 and to be fair it was the cartoon element he was naturally drawn to.
It was my fault for allowing him unfettered access to the newsletter while my attention was distracted, but I trusted Frontier Developments and their supposed stance on offensive language and behaviour in general.
You can guess my feeling when he turned to me and pointed at the newsletter and said "That's naughty isn't it uncle?" ...pointing at the "F" word in all it's blatant glory.
Lets just say his mother was not best pleased with me when little lad regaled her of what he'd seen on my computer while we were "playing Elite". OK there are worse things happening in the world but some families still do try to take a stance.
THANKS FRONTIER![mad]

i don't remember any age limitations on the news letter application. Therefore, I would say that it should have the same limitations as these good forums. So you do have a point.

As FDEV has now shown there is nothing wrong with the F word, please remove the forum and in game filters. MY DUCKING SHIP AWAITS!!!

Ducking newsletter....

* Seems the forum filter does a better job than the newsletter filters...

Methinks the duffus at FD that allowed that "cartoon" (quotes due to the fact that it isn't funny) into the newsletter needs to pull his head from the dark smelly place found at his nether regions.

The point is well made that it is in direct conflict with established standards of conduct on these forums and in game.

What were you thinking? Oh yeah, that's right.... you weren't. [wacko]

Make whatever rules you please and I will abide by them. Break your own rules and you have no credibility.

Do we have a 15 year old responsible for the Newsletter now?

That cartoon isn't even funny. In fact, it serves no purpose at all. The cringe meter went off the scale for this one. [down][ugh]

That "cartoon" strip fails on so many levels. I am surprised that F D chose to feature it and I think the Commander who produced it shows a complete lack of any artistic, linguistic or humour talent.

Oh yeah, the "f" word should immediately have precluded the inclusion of the rubbish.

P.S. I only clicked the link to see what the OP was on about, the image in the newsletter looked so naff that I never bothered with it before. (I actually had assumed that it was some child's nonsense.)

P.P.S. Why is this a "Horizons" subject?

To be honest I feel that the OP was being incensed for the sake of it, really it's no worse than you hear every day on the Bus, in the street at work or at school when the teacher's not there,
yes it should have been vetted first, you know guy draws it and gives it to the EDitor (see what I did there?) and the Editor screws it up and bins it, anyway, no it wasn't particularly funny, nowhere near as funny as someone banging their head in the kitchen (or anywhere for that matter) and it shouldn't have been included especially given the Forum enforced standards, but come on you guys what do you want here Blood, a hanging, an apology which will not relieve the immense stress that merely seeing the word put you under... compensation?

The cartoon was made by a young guy and posted to Reddit originally. Clearly, Frontier copy pasted it without even reading it. The shocking QA has made its way into the Newsletter now... lol.

Someone forgot to put the link. It's so small I had a hardtime reading the 1srt words in the newsletter (had to open it)... I'm not English native speaker, but of course the same kind of rude vocabulary exists also here. What one can hear in school yards from kids talks would make one's ears bleeding, but that's life [blah]

That was a bit oversensitive and it's not like he doesn't hear this word every day outside, but well, enjoy.

You do not solve problems of this nature in one sweeping gesture. You make changes to a society's behavior by correcting one offense at a time; make no mistake, the OP is in the right on this.

I wasn't discussing if he is in the right on this. I said that this was a pretty big and unneeded overreaction.
