Disagree strongly with this; far too many Commanders spent far too much time linking a glitch with a coincidental planned event—which involved no actual planned surprise attacks in the end. The presence of the event covered so undeservedly well for what is actually a really, really bad problem, and no part of either should have the faintest suggestion of being related to the other.
If it helps resolve the problem, it appears that the fire groups of security and pirate vessels often now have weapons along with scanners. Pirates always did have a bit of trouble with their fire groups anyway; long has it been the case that either hatch-breaker limpets can appear in their attack groups, or they can fail to switch to an attack group before attacking.
