Oh, Corvette, how you will forever be out of my range!

Man do I want a Corvette so, so, so, sooooo bad and yet, I don't think I'll ever get one because of how bad the grind to get proper rank is.

My other issue in while I'll never get one is because I thought this was a game I could play how I wanted but nope, that's not the case.

My character is a lone wolf. A solitary explorer. He doesn't care for any of the superpowers and really, if he could, he'd stay away from all of them, and he does unless he needs to come into the bubble to refit, repair and refuel.

But he keeps eyeing that Corvette but sadly he knows the only way to get it is to become highly ranked with a power he cares nothing for.

So here I am stuck in my Anaconda, which I do love by the way, forever looking at that Corvette just out of my reach.

Here I am, in a game where I can play how I want, but am forced to join a group I hate just to get a ship. Why can't there be other ways, perhaps, after your friendly enough with the superpower or just have run enough missions for the stations selling the ship you want that's locked they will allow you a pass to buy without needing to be ranked, or....you know just increase the rate at which we can rank up.

Anyways, that's my rant. It's nothing new I know. It's been like that since day 1. But now that I've found what I like to do in game I have also realized that route will never allow me to get the ship I so want and it's disappointing.

Just stick with the Anaconda. :) Corvette is a pain in the butt jump range even for its good fire power.

Playing the game how you want is not the same thing as getting rewards from the game however and whenever you want, though.

qv: I am a lone wolf; a solitary explorer. I can live the ultimate sandbox - life - how I want. But nope, that's not the case: I don't care for the superpowers and I would stay away from all of them. But I reaaaalllly want a T-80 main battle tank. Here I am in a life where I can do what I want, but I am forced to join a group I hate just to get a tank! :) :)

Well, jeez, in the time it took you to write all that you could have climbed a rank or two! ;)

What would a "solitary explorer" want with a battleship anyway? You would want massacre missions, or at the least a cause to fight for, to really use it. They get horrendous jump range. Maintenance, repair costs, the list goes on on. All these things easier in the bubble, not to mention engineering...

And really, what was the purpose of this post? Would you like us to hold your hand and convince you to stay the course? Why not just put the time in like everyone else who has one? Variety is the spice of life after all, mix things up a little!

Yes, it can be quite the grind for rank if the bubble isn't your thing. Rank is only gained by doing missions for the superpower. Being an explorer, perhaps stacking passenger missions would work. They'd need to be from a federal faction. I've never done one, so maybe I'm just blowing smoke.

When you visit a station, perhaps you can find some donation missions for the feds. it's slow going, but it's progress nevertheless.

Fly safe, CMDR.

The rate of rank increase does seem quite slow these days. But ask yourself, what do you actually need a Corvette for? Especially if you are a lone-wolf explorer.

At current rate of progress, I'm months away from affording either of the big two, and years away from the rank. I'm not sure I'm that bothered. Just after release I never though I'd be able to afford an Anaconda, but credits come a bit easier now than they did and I have one. I don't spend all my time in it though.

Back around early 1.3, exploration data could also be used to gain naval ranks, because rank gain was simply tied to rep gain for those minor powers under an overarching super power.

It actually made a lot more sense than some of the nonsense people do now to grind rank and I never felt like I was ever grinding anything as I ranked up.

If you quit your job and dumped your wife/gf you would have more time to devote to the game. If you can't give every drop of your time and life to ED, you don't deserve the Corvette.

Grit your teeth and get the grind done. By the time you have the rank you'll have more than enough money.
The thing handles like a dream in and out of supercruise. Turn your Anaconda into a full time explorer afterwords.

FSD range > all.

Do not worry, your Conda or AspX will be your main ships, even with the Vette in your Lair.

FDL, Corvette, and Viper III are my main ships.

I barely use my AspX and have sold the Anaconda three times (not sure I'll ever buy another one).

Modest jump range really doesn't bother me and I'd rather explore in the Corvette than the Anaconda because the vette turns twice as fast in SC and exploration usually isn't a long distance hyperspace race.

Yeah, join the club mate. I've been here since beta, and I now regret not ranking up much earlier on when it was easier.

I just never did the missions back then, just either did combat, trade and a little exploration. Didn't see the point in ranking up when there was no reason for it.

Now I'm still only Lieutenant/Knight. Still a long way to go to getting those two ships.

Why don't you do what I did, buy another Anaconda and kit it out for a different purpose?

This is how I see it too.
Which is good since my rank is way low and I refuse to "grind" it.
Tried that once a long while ago when I just had to have a Clipper...tried it for three days and promptly took a 6 week break from the game.

A game you can play how you want does not equal a game where you can have everything you want without having to do stuff you don't want ;)

I mean, its also supposed to be a game of making decisions, choices and consequences.

This has been my experience as well.
However: "There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them." comes to mind.

Try some walkarounds. I would never have grinded my way up to Federation without the loopholes in the game. And the Vette really is a nice ship. ;-)
