Oh no - I have an opinion about 2.1 before I even tested it

Well, it's a known fact that when you ask any community (other than Bay12, for some odd reason it only happens to them in waves) of a game that's in continuous development what they think the future holds, they will immediately respond DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

Not necessarily. It's just more prevalent here than normal. I attribute that to most people being bored silly and looking for a little drama to spice things up. In comparison, the EVE forums tend to be less dramatic when it comes to updated content. Though the Jump Fatigue caused a lot of drama (and really only for those who don't live in High Sec.) Course that could also be because people can place bounties on people who whine incessantly on the forums (and they do!)

The ED forums are not unlike World of Warcraft's General Forum in most respects.

I for one, am looking forward, yes very much so. To the concept of Engineers....
Imagine instead of copies of ships flying through space, having a similar but with unique abilities.
And for all the doomsayers wailing on about the rail gun that can mess with SCBs.
Remember, a hit by the rail gun while SCB is going off, has a "CHANCE" of dropping shields.
Not a definite collapse the shield upon a hit.

Nah, look at the Bethesda community. They're so drunk on marketing they think that every new game and/or expansion is going to be the coming of the rapture.

Dear all,

looking at these forums now, 8 of the top 10 threads currently try discussing things that have not been released yet.
Once, I learned the following steps (in this order)
1. Try out something
2. Give it a fair chance by trying out a bit longer
3. Develop an opinion
4. Voice it in a constructive manner so that others can profit

I just love forums!

To be fair, a lot of people have spent a lot of time in game. You can't expect the entire player base to be silent or uncommunicative over quite interesting changes in mechanics. As long as people can be civil, such debates can be fascinating. Emotional responses tend to derail such discussions, sadly, and it just descends into "I'm am right, you are invalid" semantic garbage.

Indeed, I think the response to the rail gun immediately breaking shields, has already lead to some rolling back on effectiveness; which is a good thing. It's a cool idea. Like a lot of 2.1/ 1.6 changes. Lots of very cool changes coming; but they still need to work in a way that just isn't all kinds of hilariously busted or trivially abusable.

Beta will definitely be interesting.

Depends on the the degree which people speculate, there can be theorizing done with the present information, but not too deep. There are some blatantly broken mechanics that we are aware of and will point out, and there are grey areas.

It's not that complex.

The problem is not having an opinion. The problem is thinking that your opinion is fact before you have even tried it. That is the bothersome part of all this. Do you think that the new changes or certain mechanics wont be any good? Yes, you are entitled and in the right to think that, however, you cant push it on the forums or unto others as it was a fact, it is only your opinion until proved right.

And in the other hand, people getting offended because others opinion does not match theirs... grow up, honestly.

However, there are many more constructive and well mannered post and discussions in these forums than in many other places in the web, and I do commend it.
