Ok, FD. Is it Achernar or Achenar?

What shall it be called in Elite: Dangerous?

DB has already said in one of the YouTube updates that some of the planets have moved a few light years from where they were in the older games because he want to keep it accurate.

Soooooo, if he can move the planets, he can definitely correct a spelling mistake. It's been called Achernar for about one thousand two hundred years so far - give or take a brief spell when a large group of gamers called it Achenar for a bit ;)

Achenar is the one true faith and Achernar is manifest heresy.

Or the other way round.

The flames shall decide.

Due to corps buying out organizations such as IAU somewhere between now and ED, Achernar will be renamed and shall be known as Mentos(TM).
:p

edit: [ Just read this again, could easilly be mis-interpreted by some. To elucidate: The above is referring to the Gazetteer entry of Arexack system, not to the ancient Earther prophet called Moshamet or something. ]

Wasn't there some mechanic proposed where players could name systems?
... maybe this was only for new, unnamed systems they discovered.
Anyway, I had assumed this would be possible.

I'd hate to be a resident of CD-46o11540 and have to call it that as well, the universe is uncaring, but can not possibly be that cruel! :(

So, what is there to bar a system from having a vernacular 'use' name as well as the official stellar designation by the astronomical Association?

If enough players nickname a certain system "Gateway", this should be displayed to other players in that instance, maybe like:
Gateway [CD-46o11540]
Maybe moderated by a mechanicsm weighting players' involvement in the concerned system.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I like Jenner's updated sig in honour of the debacle.

It'll always be Achernar to me. ;)

I live far enough south that I can supposedly see Achernar barely over the horizon. I think the mountains around my home to the south typically block it, though. :(

Sevral hundred years ago London was known as Londinium, So if the locals start Call it Achenar instead of ther svorn enemy that call it Achernar, Language and names and custums will change over the course of 1300+ years.

As long as there's one called "Mysturjia", I'm fine with that.
