Ok, it's time to mothball/combine the 'computer' modules

Docking computer, landing computer, colonisation computer...

I get why docking computer should be a toggle on/off module (all pilots should be able to show off their piloting skills!), and something that can be damaged, but all these things should just be an onboard system in all ships that don't take up any space. From FE2 to ED you auto-included atmospheric shielding, cargo bay life support and cargo scoops, so why have these much simpler things taken up space? We have phones in our pockets that can likely do the calculations it would take to automate such systems, it makes no sense that they would take up that kind of space/weight in advanced sci fi ships of the future unless the whole game was going for casette-futurism (which it isn't).

To that end, adding trailblazers and odyssey was great, but not everything needs to be a special separate computer, it's too bizarre. At most, they just be additional 'upgrades' of the existing ship (docking) computer that you could see under the module's 'more info'.

it's about time there was a key binding for it, there used to be back in the day. (original elite)

A new slot was added for the System Colonisation module, just as a new slot was added for the Planetary Landing module when Horizons dropped.

Two size 1 slots were added to small ships and one size 1 slot was added to medium and large ships when the the Supercruise Assist module was released.

Noting that the planetary landing slot and system colonisation slots will be single purpose slots, i.e. nothing else can be installed in them.

Combining several into one reduces the ability to lose weight and likely no modules get freed up as they would be removed. Reduces choice.

My point is that they don't need to be there in the first place. Like the canopy, just have it as a toggle module but not a physical thing that can be installed/uninstalled, even not mentioned in outfitting and have the colony/planet stuff just in the 'more info' section of that same module. I'm talking about tidying things up visually.

it takes up an absurd amount of physical space in-universe, I don't mean usable mass for the player

That's actually a decent suggestion.

Having them as modules gives people who don’t want to use them more options.

Changing them to something like the canopy runs the risk of losing those extra module slots.

I don’t understand why the planetary landing slot and system colonisation slots exist, there’s no benefit to taking them out so what’s the point in having those at all.
