Ok, Lets stop the nonsense Fdev - NPC Crew - No Brainer!

But you aren't required additional personal to handle your ships.

As for NPC crew it is hard to do them without going autoaim bot territory. It is just simple as that. It is balance issue.

FFE had NPC crew. In fact, you simply couldn't fly multicrew ship without hiring minimal needed crew too.

I don't think it was particularly hard-to-implement feature. They didn't do anything. You just needed to pay them a cut if you wanted to fly bigger ship.

This but this time around it would be nice to see them sitting in those empty chairs I have around the bridge of my Anaconda. and I wouldn't mind if they took a cut of the profits or a weekly wage.

We have this wonderful thing called Halo me and as a character creator it is quite good, but I used it once when It was released spent all of 10 minutes getting the look of Lokvette. I have never touched it since. Someone said earlier in this thread people would buy even more crap from the store just to make Tom Harry and Jane too, look nice.

Its odd as in the last Vid the one where it went a bit wrong for Captn understatement, he had a few folk sitting in chairs, oh wait someone will tell me thats MC ...yeah ok....

It would look better if the SLF pilot sits next to me like they do with multicrew. I could also man the turrets like you can with multicrew. FEV could also add all sorts of new mechanics and improve multicrew at the same time... You could also use them for a limited autopilot. Or they could just be cosmetics which is still better than an empty seat.
Since most players are better than NPCs aimbot doesn't really matter - we already have aimbot turrets after all...

It was already in the design proposal from day one, however they (FD) cut the feature for some reason.

However I agree we could use NPC crew, and start slowly by adding the fighter pilot in the seat next to you.
The we could get an engineer who could take care of the repairs, rebooting the system and do all the things we do now manually.

The trick should be to keep them alive long enough so they gain experience to do it better and better.

1.) Fighter pilot
2.) Engineer
3.) Science officer
4.) Communication Officer.

That is what I would like to have onboard.

Some interesting ideas here. But many of them were even more interesting when they were first proposed four years ago and we all thought they might actually lead somewhere. :(

Sorry to be a negative ninny but it galls me to see so much intellectual effort being invested in discussions that in many cases have already been had, often with the involvement of FD's creative teams, but which went nowhere. The fact that so many "new" players are having the same ideas as the "old guard" and FD's own Proposals just underscores how great some of those ideas are and were, and how empty the game feels without them.

Will basic NPC and/or robot crew be part of the QOL tweaks next year? We can only hope. Like we've been doing since launch.

Let's stop faffing around the topic. Enough is enough...

I have many ships with many empty seats.. Heck, even if I do employ a crew member they are invisible! SERIOUSLY?

Simple guide to making much profit...

Buy Crew, they sit in seat, they take orders and what do you know... my solo experience gets interactive. I have real crew on my huge ship.

Just.. I dunno - Why do we not have this?

I suspect this might be a DLC content feature in 2018.

how about this:

Crew unlock skills at rank ups;
gets to
Expert; Learns docking at stations, like the docking computer
Master; Learns docking at planet stations and landing on planet ( like ship calling when in buggy, but can land the thing and find a spot for you, higher ranks deal with different gravity better )
Dangerous; crew member can fly to target and drop out of cruise at the right point, as a simple AI so easy to interdict
Deadly; crew can auto fly INCLUDING frameshift drive to location target in a simple path, and standard fuel scoop
Elite; crew can auto fly as above, but can also safely navigate and charge at neutron star boosts

that would give me incentive to use and train an AI crew, currently i see no point

Why bother playing if the AI is doing everything for you?

Here's the answer for all of your problems:

- new store item, Co-Pilot, €3.50

I'd like to see them sitting in the seat if assigned, I know they don't do much but still... Flying the SLF for me has been invaluable and it seems a bit mean they are consigned to invisibility.

Sure there are lots of things to expand on from there, I'd love to see that, but in the meantime just seeing them would be nice :)

Things to add:
Recovery missions on ship destruction.
Revenger against you if you don't recover them after ship destruction but someone else does.
Background story missions.
Advantages to the crew in big ships - perhaps 360 scanning and 2 SLFs being launchable as with MC. For the biggest ship perhaps upping to 3 crew could give you an extra MC extra like pip?
Sending them out in the SRV?
Some RPG light elements, crew maybe can improve scanner range, weapon effectiveness/accuracy, increase reactor output, effect limited repair, etc. Maybe have more specific NPC roles and you can shuffle them around, different NPCs have different capability in roles and can improve.

All that Holo-Me work, and you get to see yourself, and a small static of others. What a waste.

Put my SLF pilot in a seat until there are too many CMDRs, THEN sent him to the Fighter bay.

Also NPC Crew either for some benefit, or just for eye candy.

This board freaks me out sometimes with how little effort it takes to make some happy... You really wouldn't want them to at least do something? It's akin to my fiancee being forced to put a grease trap in her restaurant, having to pay for it (and every year after), but it never actually doing anything (completely unused and not needed) and being penalized for not having it. It's just an arbitrary rule to force you to pay the state every year. I'm not a fan of paying for things that do nothing. Then again I probably still underestimate the wonderment and amusement people would get from having living art filling space their ships.

I'd argue that I've hired crew for SLF, but they're no where to be seen when not out in the fighter, and yet we got empty seats on the bridge, but I am with you, they should be functional when occupying a seats, multi-pew is pretty much a fail, but I believe NPC's occupying those positions would be more popular.

This was supposed to be in the game according to the initial outline of the game design. When you watch this, it will make you almost weep for what could have been. What could still be, really. And who knows? Maybe this will be part of the core gameplay expansion they've been talking about:

Once you paypal me the cash for it I'll get right on it ;)

c'mon, one evening in a Club costs five times more than a second Account. Just drink 3 wodka Red Bull less and you got it ... we are talking about a "light a fire with it note".

Solution: Use your second Account. So you can use halo me and 1 more pip.

I'm doing this currently, and of course you do get to choose what your travelling companion looks like, but without a third party app(or a spare hand), they sit there just looking pretty, the only practical use currently is the extra pip.

That is more use as some of the people here want.
