OK so I'm weak.......

2 days back from my mandatory Sgr A* sightseeing trip, approx 2600 systems visited for a profit of 97 000 000 after all data sold, one trade run and a retrofit later (refinery and mining lasers fitted) and I could not resist the call of the void any longer.....

Yes, currently running like a scalded cat for the outer rim via the Bubble Nebula. Somehow the irritation and sense of unease at being in populated space has been lifted - I am yet again at Peace within the Stars.

Onwards and outwards, Destination unknown..............

I'm on my way back to home now... 1500 Ly remaining.
Then i'll try BH a little...

I'll let you know how strong i am. :)

Have a safe trip btw...

Oh Brother- We're in this together. I know that CG and trading are more profitable but the Siren's song of the lonely stars beckons me. When I'm not in deep space, I'm not.

All power play means to me is heading back to the egg to look into the whole storing bonus fuel in my cargo bay thing, maybe a drone or two if any are suitable for a deep space explorer. Other than that, unless there's a new exploration vessel that would significantly improve on what I already use, it just means there's a few weeks where a lot of the part time explorers and people looking for a fast run at an elite badge along the neutron belts clear out of the sky while they play with the new shinies, leaving all the more room for me :)

May the solar wind be ever at your back Eddy and Ziggy, safe travels.

Im trying to time my return so that I arrive right on time, I can get my new goodies (drones/ships, whatever they are) and get back out immediately. The loony-bin is no fit place for our sort.

I believe there will be. I seem to recall hearing about drones to help scan a system and would like to know how they will work. If they do a faster detailed scan than I can, they may be worth it - presumably being able to scan multiple objects at once - but I don't know if the wait for them to return will mean it doesn't make much difference. Or maybe they'll transmit the data to you and then power down/destruct, which will be expensive, and not really worth an explorers time as presumably you won't be able to carry loads with you.
.
Seems to me the mining drones would be worth much more to miners than exploration drones will be to us. Besides, we won't be able to get decent pics from the edge, ship near that ELW, water world, or metal planetoid unless we actually GO there!

I have to say - it's why I'm doing the neutron farm run at the moment. I want to get back, get myself a Type 9, do cargo runs until I can afford an Anaconda, fit it out for exploring and get back out again.

I kind of want the longest range ship so I can *get* somewhere obscure quickly then tool around finding fun stuff.

I suffer from the same syndrome. I couldn't stay in civilised space for any longer than a few hours before I had to get out again.
Even now, although I've been out here for months I have no desire to go back.

And let's be honest guys, exploration has a limited amount to offer us at the moment. Can imagine how much more compelling it would be if we were able to discover more than we can now (more cosmic stuff, more comets, more.... Sci fi....)?

40,000Ly out, and another 40 odd to go. Might try a T9 when I get back, rank up to Count, see what 1.3 is all about, it will be about 1.3.13 by the time I get back. I will get back out probably about a week after I get back. The far rim this time, its too claustrophobic in the core. I am still looking for the jackpot of ELW, water and ammonia in the same system. Lots of 2 out of 3's but no 3 out of 3.

I feel you, OP. My original plan after my Sag A* trip, and a second galactic rim trip was to hang out on the monkey farm until 1.3 and earn money trading. I am still on track, but it is getting harder and harder to spacetruck while waiting for that diamondback!

A couple of trips ago I got back just in time for the Zaonce CG, played there until it was over then straight out to make sure nobody had stolen Sag A* but happily it was still there.

Just back from Sag A* and with my new access to Founders World I thought I'd try a Vulture on the Sobek CG but as soon as that finishes I suspect the call of the void will be irresistible and I'll be off again.

Last time i resisted a couple of hours, and becouse i had to go to Sol to check some distances for my database, otherwise it would have been dock-sell-repair-start.

Yeah exploration is pretty much all that I am doing. I stopped caring about anything else in game - and it's not like I was not trying, especially PvP. But without player clans and territorial control, or at least killboards, it's completely meaningless for me.

Don't get me wrong: exploration is not my refugee. Yes, it's very simplified and feels like a placeholder, but there is some intrinsic magic in it.

Very similar for me. I went back after my last trip, wanting to do the Bucky Ball, starting from Sol. So I did the missions to get my Fed ranking high enough, earnt some more CRs in CGs (and recovered my losses from a couple of insurance claims). Now I'm about 19kly out and loving it. My first AE, MS & S stars today :)

I'm thinking when I go back I'll have enough to upgrade my other ship to a Python, so I'll have some fun in that, and perhaps switch to the new ship if its a better explorer (or maybe just try exploring in something new).
