Horizons Old newbie

Hey guys, I haven't played the game much but I've always wanted a Anaconda for a ship.

I have around 300,000 credits and am flyin g a Viper MK3.

Can anyone help me get my goal of a anaconda. Should I sell up and trade? I wouldn't mind doing a bunch of trade runs or if anyone could spare some time in jumping on and helping me too that works also! :D

Thanks.

Other than the SOTHIS / CEOS runs that others have mentioned, if you have Horizons you can also go to Aditi and do data courier missions there. I would suggest making the trip after you have 1.5 Million and can pickup an advanced discovery scanner (you'll need it to scan for all the planets). Aditi basically involves running data courier missions from one (or both if you like) space stations to a planet in a nearby system that is about 12 LY away. You can switch between open and solo to help you stack missions (up to 20). Take those 20 data courier deliveries to the planet and do the same on the way back.
You'll build up your Empire rank really fast, make a decent amount of credits, and pickup a wide variety of engineer materials. Empire rank will give you the ability to purchase some cool Empire only ships.

I almost forgot to mention, Dont be in a rush to get the biggest ship. They are not necessarily more fun to fly. I can afford any ship in the game and have a large fleet, but I tend to have the most fun in my Imperial Courier.

Ohh man I wanted to search just now for an way to get my Empire rank up. Thanks for the info :)

This is the rig I flew out to Jaques:

https://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial...---00030303063dB30302022f2i.Iw18aQ==.Aw18aQ==

Things to note:
  • This is an unarmed, but very fast, ship. It is designed to run away.
  • The shields are minimal; biweave is weaker than regular, but recharges faster. It is designed to run away.
  • Did I mention that it is designed to run away?

Think of it as the Elite equivalent of a Blockade Runner.

Took me about a week of data delivery runs from Fehu to make Baron.

If you do the Engineering mods to the FSD, and get good numbers, you can pop up over 25 LY laden.

It's a beautiful ship the clipper but I'm not sure if have the patience to step down from a 50LY Conda to 25LY Clipper. You get used to being able to span those endless leaps across the galactic arms without having to work around.

@ Techen make sure your life support and scanners are D - rated. This gives you the lightest modules available for those slots

Don't forget to update the thrusters when you have the money, it makes a huge difference in handling. The T6 with maxed out thrusters is a sweet little bus, you can slam it in and out of stations like a fighter to get your turnaround down to a minimum. (watch your jumprange as you upgrade the thrusters though, because you will loose a little for the extra wieght, but I think it's worth it for the fast turnaround) :)

Guessing that you are flying an Exploraconda? That clipper build is pure Einsteinian speed and haulage (160t).

I agree that the faster way to serious money is the Ceos run.

The cheapest way to do that is a T6, fit it with A grade FSD, A grade scoop, D rated everything else (to increase jump range), drop the shield 1 size, and max cargo. If/ when intercepted, you'll be running away as its offensive capabilities are almost zero, so ditch the weapons (4 t loss will increase jump range) and fit a long defence unit.

You should be able to earn more than 5 MCr per run....
You can also rank up with the empire till you can afford a Clipper, which will increase your earnings

What is the Ceos run and what is a long defensive unit????????????????

Gentlemen,
does my heart good to see that you all have contributed to the knowledge of a new player, giving valuable advise and tactics to use to enable techen to gain cr's and learn the in's, out's and risks of ED.

It was this same forum that advised me to fit mines and run when interdicted in my trading Asp Explorer/PYTHON.
It was this same forum that advised me about the Sothis system and the data run to Ceos, which enabled me to build up a rapore with the station and gain even better paying missions.

It was this same forum that has advised me on where to look for the EDDB -Elite Dangerous database, multi and single hop route planner which enable you to plan a route and advise you what goods to buy and sell, ( https://eddb.io)

You all contributed to me being able to build a better ship and pointed me towards (http://inara.cz) which has a wealth of information for the newbe and is of great assistance in finding that shipyard or component required for ones build. Rather that wandering aimlessly from station to station looking for example a A6 FSD.

and it was also you lot that explained to me that loosing an Anaconda several time over mostly was due to my flying tactics and on the odd occasion, due to overbearing, over armed interdiction craft ( I won't mention the fact that last night I was returning from Lagoon Nebula, in the exploration Anaconda loaded with exploration data onboard and just 8 seconds out of my home station I was interdicted, then interdicted again and lost the ship and data. no I won't weep over that....)

I would advise techen to also get onto youtube and look at the wealth of information on all aspects of Elite Dangerous (ED)

Techen,
Good hunting, trading, cargo running or whatever you decide to do.
Don't forget to come back and tell us of your wins and failures, of your interdictions and escapes.
Before you know it you will have that new ship.

Well the horizons forum is an eminently more preferable place to discus than the dangerous forums, which, to be frank are ... Dangerous. And although I haven't yet lost my ExploraConda to an interdiction I admire your resilience in suffering its loss. @techen make sure you buy that insurance cushion. @ Reacher CEOS runs are this:
Go to CEOS and accept all data delivery missions that you can to SOTHIS, then once at SOTHIS do the same back to CEOS c.8LY this is a good way to initiate the much better paid biowaste delivery missions into the bubble which pay in some cases 10000000 per mission (in my experience) and if you stack them you are looking at 30mil per run in an ExploraConda maxed with cargo.

Doesn't 30 mil per run in a conda seems way to little? I mean, from Robigo I make 30 mil with ASP and around 70 - 80 mil with Python (ofcourse with cargo full of slaves). Are you sure you didn't miss anything?

p.s: Still it takes way a lot of time to stack only low cargo missions, sometimes I get bored doing it :(

Yes actually I should've mentioned it I don't have a lot of patience to stack missions as I'm on a 2011 laptop, it takes a lot of time to log in and out esp with the sever delays (I run a fibre connection so defo no network delays my end) I'm usually satisfied at around 30 mil - all the stuff I posted @ Techen is my experience only not a hard fast rule overall :)

Cutter is 200m conda is 140m and if you go to a ru system its 15% cheaper still. you can also have a conda up and running with d rated gear for pretty cheap while maxing jump range. so prob around 300-400m. I did my Cutter with like 320m ish and now it earns me a fair bit. The thing is to go for the smallest lightest mods you can fit while still keeping the ship running ok. oh and you can also run a 5a prismatic on a conda for extra cargo space, it will around same states as a 6a shield.

thing is its about how you stack, best i have done is 70m which including doing a couple of smuggling missions i came across in ceos > sothes and then back to ceos before heading back to the bubble. think i made like around 54m from the run and 14 from the local smuggling while stacking.

Might be a idea to rank up to Baron grab a Clipper and go that way. You can prob rank up to baron in 1-2 days in shu bhassi running data missions. Then drop 20m on a clipper mostly D rate it and cargo fit it, then you will be set for making bank.
