General / Off-Topic Olympics in Sochi

Great day for Team Finland in otherwise pretty depressing Olympics: Silver in women's pair ski sprint, gold in men's pair ski sprint and the icehockey team advanced to semifinals! :D

Yes, congrats to Finland! You're doing good.

I think it's good for the sport that swedes and finns also get to take some medals. We have perhaps dominated some sports too much. Although we like to win, the other nations don't like to lose all the time and the grass root recruitment suffers over time. So we welcome Sweden and Finland to fight with us at the top again!

:D

Actually, I saw a news bit of a Swedish skiier (or whatever you call them) who said that she never knew what training was until she trained with Norwegians in Norway. I suspect the same is true for many Finns as well.

Yes, that was Charlotte Kalla who said that. I mentioned it in this thread too.

Another nation who is totally dominant in one sport, is the Netherlands in speed skating. Click on http://sport.uk.msn.com/winter-olympics/medals.aspx and then click on the Netherlands link to see their medals. 22 medals - all in speed skating(!)

Edit: correction: one medal in short track too. But that's also skating. :)

Oh, you did? That may be the place where I saw the news, then... :D

I admit to not having watched a single Olympics broadcast and only catching news randomly on newspaper headlines as I skip through the sports pages, TV when it is on at an inopportune moment and when accidentally visiting this thread...

Bronze for the GB ladies curling team! The rest of Britain had better hope we don't get independence or there goes your curling team......

Yes! :D

Today we got all three medals in the women's 30 km cross country!

Yeah on the page I linked there is a tab that say highlights, at least there is here, don't know if it's available in all countries.
I don't seem to be able to link the video directly.

Anyway, 4 man bob is our last realistic hope for a medal, starting today.
Another team that use the facilities at work (the wind tunnel on the local other site).
