OMNIPOL security guards

What's the point of the OMNIPOL security guards? I like the idea of NPCs scanning NPCs, but it could be nice if when that police scans any wanted NPCs it triggers some kind of special interaction or event, not an "everything is ok".

(in the photos, 1. Wanted NPC being scanned by a police, 2. The police, 3. The police going away because he didn't found anything wrong)

Would be a good bit of emergent gameplay if they would aggro NPCs with the random bounties, and instigating a huge fight with the whole settlement. It's not like this doesn't happen elsewhere. Sometimes when taking a settlement offline scavengers/outlaws can drop in and will begin to attack the base. Makes it a lot easier to sneak out.

Shouldn't just be a shootout like some Oblivion NPCs would do. Wanted one may surrender, get escorted to the landing pad where an OMNIPOL ship lands and then the NPC despawns with the ship taking off again. Lacking a free landing pad either a nearby landing spot is used or the OMNIPOL agent is maintaining the check on the wanted NPC until the pad is free or, if the settlement has them available the NPC gets escorted to a holding cell. If you kill the OMNIPOL agent in that situation, you gain standing from the NPCs faction and maybe a mission opportunity to help them escape/cover their tracks again.

Yeah gunning down a cop in my lobby always improves my opinion of the guy if it's my employee is the one getting arrested.

If they react like they react to you scanning them, the base would first merc the Omnipol agent, and then more Omnipols would start dropping in to eradicate the base. Would be funny to see indeed.

Also, I've taken a crapton of bases offline and I've never had scavengers dropping in yet. Does this happen more often on your end?

I think it was actually removed in an earlier update, for some reason 🤷‍♂️. I have very distinct memories of taking an industrial settlement offline (still populated), and a dropship of scavengers touched down outside the perimeter of the base, instigating a huge fight in the dark and allowing me to ghost out of the settlement undetected.

i see them all the time. probably just a symptom of rng. I didn't even know fires had to be put out on reactivation missions until after someone mentioned it. I still have had only a handful need it while they have never had ones that didn't.

However I have noticed that scavengers almost never spawn w/o the mission prompt if you use apex

A.I. in Elite Dangerous has always been bugged / glitched. I remember how horrible AI ships used to be in combat, you was able to kite Anaconda with Sidewinder LOL (I literally did this in extraction zones when I just started, to get credits for better ship).

Imagine if ED devs would take examples out of GTA 5 (A.I. interactions / random events) and No Man's Sky (planetary fauna and life) .. would be absolute best game ever.

honestly what's stranger isn't that the cops don't attack someone with a bounty but that they don't shoot the cops.

When was the last time you scanned a bounty on an NPC that didn't result in them shooting if they saw you do it.

I haven't looked into it, but it could be that the bounty is in other jurisdiction. For example I'm wanted in several systems and have notoriety between 1-3 due the missions, but when I get scanned (ship or on-foot) then nothing happens, because I'm not wanted in that specifc settlement or station, but if another player scans me, they'd see the "wanted" status.
Perhaps it could be something similar?

I have bumped into several Omnipol agents over the past week whilst doing transport missions. Scanned and on my way. They seem to have an increased presence lately.

I can well remember the days when as soon as a settlement was powered down, scavs would drop in and head for the PWR building. No longer happens, which makes life easier. Got killed once or twice when I could not run fast enough.

Wait a sec... OMNIPOL? When do they show up? I've never seen them before.

Me neither and i've done thousands of missions, but indeed i didnt got (much) involved lately in on-foot missions. Lately as in the last 2 months.

This is my Colonia unlock trip, in last November, mostly on-foot missions (383 out of 410, rest being in-ship donation missions to gain rep with the factions)
I'd say that most of the missions listed as expired by Inara (if not all of them) were actually completed - so safe to say that in 350 missions i never seen any Omnipol guys.
And i'm pretty sure i never seen them before the last November either.

Personal anecdotal experience tells me they show up at higher frequencies the higher your notoriety gets. Setting off base alarms at notoriety 10 can even cause dropships to show up with full G5-geared Omnipol officers.
Unsure if this happens at criminal/anarchy settlements.

Well, that might explain it.
My notoriety is generally kept at 0 (i generally refrain from doing murders or settlement massacre missions, and if i do it i pick a native anarchy faction that has the lowest INF in the system so my actions dont / cant hurt them)

(in the same line, i never seen the ATR either 😂 )
