One big monitor v 2 monitors?

I use a 1440p 27" 144Hz gaming screen for Elite/games in general, and a 27" plain 1080p screen next to it for chat, EDDB and whatnot. :)

At least 2 monitors, or more. Main monitor could be large, curved, huge, whatever you prefer, but I never want to have only 1!
This is not only for playing games, I am a programmer and it is the same, never back to 1.

Three monitors give you your full cockpit view. In combat, hell in anything, having a full view is a game changer. Add head tracking and you have immersive flight. Anything less is reducing the reality. In real life we call it tunnel vision. Peripheral vision makes everything better.

Also, two monitors gives you a crack down the middle. That would suck.

As everyone has said above, 2 are better than 1, and 3 are better than 2. I have 3, but only play ED on my lovely big Dell U2715H 2560 x 1440, reserving the others for getting info I need from the forums, or playing music. I'm not really a watch netflix etc while playing sort of guy.

But it's not really in games that multiple monitors shine (especially when you have 3 differing sizes) but when working.

I do web dev, design and marketing stuff and spread everything out all over the screens, which is great for all sorts of scenarios.

The problem? Once you get used to it, anytime I only have my laptop it feels horribly claustrophobic and I feel incapable of being productive on it :p

I'd like to echo this. Elite in VR is an experience unmatched by any monitor. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.
Until you need to do 30 jumps in a row or need to search for mats on the internet or things on eddb.io.

I have 5760x1200 over three 24 inch monitors. For me horizontal pixels is king. Against that a 4k monitor would not do the same range of jobs.

You may find two monitors do a better job than one 4k monitor unless the monitor is a decent size (therefore lower pixel density)

I went 1 large 4K monitor and an iPad on my lap. Similar to how I fly my airplane, and the old cockpit view.

I had VR, it was good for many things, but, horrible where it mattered most to me.

I've been using 42" inch TV for some time now, it is heaven, even at 1080p, 4k upgrade doesn't seem worth it, 'yet' too big input delay still but we are getting close. No way I could go back to a monitor of lessor size.

Which is best for ED?

Errrrrmmmm.... Why compromise?

1 40" 4k screen and 2 1080p should be enough!

1 big 4K.

If all you ever do is play E: D then sure. But there are drawbacks to 4K... not least that all the text is tiny.

Of course, you can make it bigger, but then you lose the advantage of more screen real-estate, so I've found 3 normal cheap 1080p monitors to be the best.

I had a big 4K and sold it.

Because it has been used as derogatory term for people of Italian decent, though only by those who cannot spell, and the original, correctly-spelled term was an acronym for "With Out Papers", referring to those coming in to Staten Island without immigration forms.
It comes from the Sicilian and Neapolitan dialects, where "guappo" had a meaning akin to "cool dude" and similar. There's a similar word in spanish - guapo/guapa, which means handsome or beautiful.

"WithOut Papers" is a backronym.

One ultra-wide or triple head. If you go the multi-head route, make sue you buy three of the same model - different panels will have different pixel densities and different colour gamuts. Having an ill-matched display is pretty annoying.

Hmm, I have a 40" 4K screen and I run it with no scaling. I use the built in windows shortcuts to move windows around (Win+Arrow Keys), meaning that for productivity I essentially have 4 1080p screens to work on.

I do sit fairly close to the screen though, which helps :)

The game is optimized / designed for a single display. For my eyes and budget a 34" UW 2560*1080 as main and the "old" 27" FHD display as secondary turned out to be perfect. Due to the "low" resolution I don't need that much gfx-power, and with the size and distance it looks great even only with FXAA 85° FOV (still very well readable text). And the best: the LG 34" was on sale for € 389,-
