One Hit Kill by NPC is this really what Elite is about ?

I'd love to know how, I was dead within 5 seconds of entering the USS, FSD was still cooling down, my scanner had "just" logged his name and his status as clean when he shot me!

I had the same thing as this the other day, right when I first started playing. Dropped out in my stock Sidewinder, only just finished scanning him before I became a cloud of vapor.

I had a good laugh about it though, I was trying to figure out if it was a ship I could successfully attack or not - that debate was pretty quickly ended. Didn't realize he's a mission target, wish I could find him again now that I have a Viper and see how things play out.

I don't think it's unfair that these ships can be that powerful - I know that if I had bought one, I'd want to be able to one-shot smaller ships too!

Out exploring an unknown system I dropped into an USS, there was one ship, an Anaconda named Colossus, who said "Now You Die" and fired something that killed my Eagle with full health and full shields with a single shot. Completely unavoidable and inescapable death from simply entering a USS :(

Not impressed with that one You Frontier Guys
Severe issue, indeed! Need a hug? :D

So someone finally found Colossus. I'm surprised no-one remembers this ship being mentioned by name in a newsletter way back in the beta phase, It was mentioned simply that there were rumours of it in the galaxy somewhere an then I never heard anything else about it. Glad it's as dangerous as it sounded! :)

I really think this is cool what happened to you, not you specifically. But it's just like Dark Souls in space. Face someone without the right equipment and you're space dust. Really cool FD. Please don't change this!!! xD

Yeah I know it's Elite Dangerous, I've been playing since Beta1 and have been killed loads of times, but this is the first time I've had an encounter either with PC or NPC where I've really felt it was just a random insta-death and I had no chance of surviving. By the time my scanners had given me the info I needed to know it was time to try to bug out I was already under his guns. Maybe just bad luck that I came out of FSD dead ahead of him, but I'm a fairly experienced player and I hate insta-death games!!

Sorry, anyone who calls being hit by a Plasma Accelerator blast "unavoidable" doesn't have the vaguest idea of what they are talking about.

If you were sitting there at 0 speed when entering a USS, your death is completely on you.

Finally found? He's been a target of assassination missions forever.

I have an old video some where...

Any time you enter a USS or are interdicted, you should be at 4 ENG pips, full throttle, and boosting from the moment the instance loads, especially if you are in a slow ship made of wet toilet paper like an Eagle.

Well its an experience shared!

Certainly the next time of any of who have read your post comes across a fairly disturbing name we might just leg it first and not wait to find out!

mmmmm The only insta death iv experienced was handed down by some munchkin sat in a Conda at a conflict zone who Zapped me, most likely with a set of railguns. I was in a bog standard Sidewinder, so very similar in terms 'the grand scheme of things' to an Eagle. Also this was mostly because i sat completely still while i was figuring out which side i wanted to join.

Now, this aside, iv done a lot of exploring and a LOT of USS hunting. There was a time where NPCs come in suicidal and start shooting before you have even had chance to look around. BUT since resent updates iv not experienced this, and this is experience of about 50 or so USS encounters.

What iv seen is typically the NPC will give you at least 5 seconds. It seems to depend upon what you do, if you are not moving, they tend to position themselves near you and wait. If you are moving around, they just tend to attack.

Now, Iv found Wraak at a random USS (i wasn't on the mission either) and even he didn't simply open fire all guns blazing. He did the normal "Give me your stuff" To which i ran away. Iv experienced alot of NPCs warping away the moment I drop in at a USS, like i drop in and i get notification of a frameshift device charge detected. Iv also dropped in at a USS to find 1 pirate Conda having a beating from 3 police Condas + a poor sidewinder.

OP might have suffered some kind of lag effect in which the drop from SC took longer than normal, and so the experience was one of being shot at instantly, so in the server time it would have looked like you sat there for a few moments while the NPC said his stand and deliver, which you never saw. They then lit you up as is their tradition. Other than that I don't think that is all too normal.

Vengance one shot killed me in my cobra during beta.

Lessons I learnt.
  • Make sure you always fly with 4 pips in engines and 2 in shields
  • When you get interdicted / enter an U.S.S. Target the ship, if it is named or it's a python / anaconda. Hit boost and full speed
  • Only when you are clear of the ship, decide if you want to attack

I set my engines at 4 pips before leaving the station, then when I come into normal space I will go full throttle, boosting, and spiraling as soon as I can, just in case I need to make a hasty exit. I haven't died from latency yet, but its been close a couple times.

Sounds like the Elite Anaconda I came across in a USS yesterday. I was in my ASP and on the first pass, before I could finish my KWS scan, he hit me and took down my shields and dropped my hull to 35%. Needless to say, it did NOT take me long to be yelling DIVERT POWER TO ENGINES, BOOST BOOST BOOST into my microphone for Voice Attack lmao. My kids all came rushing over to me to watch their big tough old Dad panicking playing a game. They laughed and I had a good laugh after. Its moments like that, that make playing Elite Dangerous all worth it!

Is this the man that touched you?
