I've been waiting for over six years for Elite to have its full potential realised. I'm done waiting. I'm leaning on uninstalling with the hope that FDEV will change their position, leave Horizons as is, and somehow fix the BGS tick lag. If they could do that, there would still be a solid game to play.
Honestly, despite EDO's many shortcomings I find it hard to go back to EDH now (apart from it looking better and running smoother).

I've waited impatiently for EDO (because it was new and was supposed to enhance the sandbox significantly, it didn't quite deliver what I was expecting unfortunately) because EDH gameplay has gotten stale for me - so I either make do with a slightly better running (hopefully) EDO or it'll be the end of the line for me.... not today or tomorrow, but it does feel a bit like the beginning of the end for me if this doesn't get turned around soon enough i.e. I'm not sure if I have the stamina to hang in there and wait for another half a year in the hope that something big happens. Been there too often at this stage. But another couple of weeks... I have just about enough patience left to give them that.

The 6 months to work on console release is sorely needed.

Sony and Microsoft have both shown a willingness to pull unfinished products from their platforms to protect their consumers.

Couple that with the fact console players are now far less likely to pre-order after seeing how happy our PC bretheren are with EDO and FDev know they will have to do better.

Whether they'll manage it in time is another question, and I know I'm far from the only console player taking an extended break until EDO is both released for us AND in a good working state.

At this point, I'd be willing to pay them $50 to create a pre-odyssey Horizons variant of the game and leave it the hell alone. Maybe do very light bug fixing, and turn over the story for that version to the community to write. Obviously it won't happen. But that's how badly they messed it up as far as what I enjoy.

I find it strange if FDev does not release performance related patches over the coming months, assuming that they don't get a grip on PC performance by the time patch 5 releases - as a consoliero I would look at the state the PC version is in and conclude if powerful PC's can't run it adequately there's no hope it'll run well on consoles. Probably best to wait for reviews before pulling the trigger alright.

As a PC player I'm somewhat miffed that I have to wait for further content for several months now given the package we got isn't exactly feature rich, I've paid full price for the game a month ago 3 months ago and didn't sign up to any delayed content release schedule.

I don't think throwing good money after bad is the answer - as I said earlier I can either make do with EDO as is, or play EDH until they merge it. I can't see them keeping EDH separate, it's going to happen because they're not going to keep two separate versions of essentially the same game (EDH will simply be EDO but with restricted access to EDO features).

IIRC Arf also said that after update 5 they will share more informations about what's going on

The way I understood it is they're focusing on performance and consoles after patch 5 (and that performance improvements they work out will also benefit PC users) but that there will be no further patches until the console release. This also suggests to me that performance will not be properly addressed for the foreseeable future.

While I find it hard to believe we're not getting any more patches for the next what... 6 months possibly, (patch 5 isn't going to fix the vast number of remaining issues that are not even performance related) I wouldn't put it past them either.

If this is indeed the way things will turn out, and if patch 5 isn't some small miracle in software form (particularly performance and rendering are what I find the most unpleasant 'features' of EDO) I might just wipe my CMDR account - it's something I long considered for EDO, but always got cold feet - see if that sparkles any more joy for me, and if not just nip this in the bud.
the language used was sufficient nuanced that you could argue either
what Arthur said was
'...While we are expecting to see specific and targeted performance improvements in the upcoming June updates, we are also aware that development work for console will allow for even larger performance optimisations and enhancements for PC too. Therefore, we feel the best approach for all our Commanders will be to focus our development efforts after Update 5 on performance and the console release, and to bring our multi-platform community together once more, which will also allow us to bring even more global optimisation changes and updates to all Elite Dangerous Commanders....'

Which, to me, means no more patches planned until the console but there are an awful lot of commas in that sentence so I could be wrong.

If we are bringing the multi-platform community together again, does that mean Playstation Commanders will finally get access to the Cobra MkIV?

I mean how hard can it be to formulate this concisely enough, right?

It could mean no more patches at all until console release, no more patches that address bugs only (that should be fun), or that there will be patches but they only focus on performance. Maybe they should provide us with a diagram instead of using words?

No, I don’t think so, we’ve now lost the last opportunity to list the most serious issues to a very annoying, but transient, bug. So much still broken - Fleet carriers actually got a little worse with update 4, they now have new cosmetic issues as well as the busted shipyard.

Not sure what to do anymore, not happy about being chucked under the bus after update 5.

If update 5 isn't coming next Thursday, I won't wait for it. The update today is even worse than last week, minus some good changes that can't be enjoyed due to the orange sidewinders everywhere, even after doing community based fixes. Atm I'm trying to find a way to kill their stupid shader that is sucking up FPS on foot. I shouldn't have to do this! This shouldn't have been released in this state.

The good news is you dont have to "do this". Just do something else if it's making you so unhappy/fed-up. What Frontier do, or don't do, isnt up to you..............

What new issues with FCs? They were already pretty broken from day one so would be surprised they managed to make it even worse...

To be fair - given the state the game is in if they don't go all in on console development they might not even ever have a console version (I mean at some point I think they'd just cut bait). I'm somewhat skeptical this thing will be in a playable state on consoles by the end of the year. Then again, my definition of a "playable state" is probably very different from theirs lol

If you want a near guarantee that optimization issues will be fixed by the console launch, just consider that they have to get this running on an Xbox One. It will be back to running on laptops again, if they pull that off. And it shouldn't really have a problem doing that considering it's not very cutting edge, graphics wise, to be honest.

Sadly you are correct. If I were going to go through the trouble of a hostile takeover, those resources would be better invested in starting another company and doing it right on a project and code base I control. It's just a shame to see such vast potential go unrealised yet again.

I've uninstalled. I have a ticket open with steam so I'm leaving it at that for now.

Well, I think you misread the streetmap statement... It said that after Patch 5 they were going to focus on Performance and the Console Release, not Performance for the Console Release. If they are going to keep working on Performance and(alongside/associated with) the Console release, there is no reason to assume that if they do have a eureka moment and find a solution to outstanding performance issues, that it won't be utilised - at the very least to test it. But then, it already works fine on my laptop so it's already at an acceptable standard atm.
Being pedantic about their EXACT wording ("and" vs. "or"), and then putting faith in your interpretation, is how you end up believing they'll add VR when they said "No VR at launch". And look where that got us.

Well, they will have to test the Horizons/Odyssey marriage somewhere... and we are the test ground now.
Unless they are going for pushing to production and pray like they did for Odyssey's release...
Yay - more PC beta testing of the console game! I wonder will we have to pay for that privelege too? @frontier - new SKU idea for you right there.

My take was that the performance gains for PC clients will be a bonus spin off of the console port process, not something happening in parallel to it.

They are either going to have to optimise the frack out of the game or nerf it into oblivion to get Odyssey running on eight year old console platforms. If the former is what they do and achieve it, it just reinforces that the game was released way way VP track record, its going to be uber-ugly.

give them the benefit of the doubt and go with the more optimistic interpretation, white kinghts call you gullable. go with the alternative pessimistic interpritation, white knights call you a doom-monger....

Yes. Nice FPS gains all around on this round of optimization.

Really? I'm not seeing that reported anywhere else. I am watching CMDR Plater's stream, while on lunch, and right now he's getting +/- 30 fps at settlements.
