Ongoing Community Goal - Unique Mining Module Stats!

Thanks for the info. I'm already using mining lances, so the range is in the same ballpark (and my T10 has 5 of them, so I have plenty of firepower). So the most interesting feature for me is the shot speed of the abrasion blaster.

If I wasn't way out in the black, I'd be tempted. Especially as I'm already allied with Wreaken.

A number of opinions- based largely on our mining-styles.
From my perspective, the thermal and power-draw loads aren't very appealing only because my mining ship's power system can run these modules continuously without issue. The faster-shot-speed abrasion blaster and its range bump is more interesting to me. I'd actually like to see the abrasion blaster be able to gimbal a little bit farther than it currently is able, but that would be a luxury-perk; I can operate it quite nicely with the little tracking-nudge which it currently exhibits.

Laser range could be useful in instances where the next rock that I wanted to mine was within the extended range. This would allow me to begin mining it while limpets were still gathering. As we know, keeping the ship close greatly speeds up the gathering process. Another luxury/productivity bump...

Greetings Commanders,

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to the current Community Goal! For those who haven't, we encourage you to get involved. We'd like to take this opportunity to describe the two brand new modules that can be obtained by participating, the uniquely engineered Mining Laser and Abrasion Blaster.

To demonstrate the differences, we've compared each of these to their standard versions (showing only the stats which have changed):

Both modules are far more energy efficient, with half the power and distributor draw of the standard versions. They also boast 5x the maximum range when compared to the defaults, among other advantages. These come with the minor drawback of a reduction in integrity.

We hope this post clarifies the benefits of these exclusive modules. If you want to get these for your mining ship, all the details for the Community Goal can be found on this page!

What would really be nice is the ability to engineer these modules at-will after the CG. Mining equipment in general is in need of a pass at engineering options, such as long range, efficient, lightweight, sturdy, and high capacity (for sub-surface missiles). Maybe Selene would be a good engineer to offer them at?

I don't get why all these modules need to be CG exclusive.
A black marked trader that would offer past CG modules for a very high price would be much appreciated.
Many don't have the time to always participate or play at all at times but have more free time at a different date.

Also, why do all these modules need to be something civilian oriented and can't be stacked? Most of the time you get a single unit of these.
What am I going to do with a single laser? I am mining in a T10 that has nine ... NINE hardpoints. It's not like these CG reoccur.
Imagine having 8 basic mining lasers and then this one weirdo that can shoot way above the other one's range.
It would cause more harm than use as it stands out and doesn't fit into the loadout. Plus I would need to refit it for every other mining ship I have in stock.

Make all CG exclusive modules permanently available for a high price at some new vendor. A traveling salesman, black market dealer, whatever.
But I can't be bothered to participate for mediocre useful modules that only come in single units.

You may have noticed that some past special CG modules were made available at tech brokers via another CG a while later. Just hope that will happen with these eventually too.

Hopefully. It would be cool if there would be a guarantee that all CG modules would be available permanently in that way. Doesn't need to be instantly but after a few months or so would be great.

Fdev seems to have the memory of a fish and does not see or does not want to see how his community plays with mining, do you not remember how we mined when you announced the price of FC, we carried most type-9 or cutters, with 5 or 7 mining lasers , mostly size 2, what are we supposed to do with a single size 1 module, put it in a hauler (sarcasm)?

Something like this, perhaps?

New Engineer, "The Collector" - gives access to restricted modules

But I've noticed that there's now quite a backlog of CG modules that haven't become available at the tech brokers yet. Perhaps Frontier are considering some sort of alternative method, I'd rather see that than have the tech-broker menus become increasingly cluttered with odd modules.

That would be an idea. But we still have root of the problem: Frontier is requested to do X by the community but does Y or nothing at all.
No matter what is requested, it's extremely unlikely tha tFD will ever add it to the game.
Throughout the years, FD has become disconnected with the community and the staff doesn't understand the game anymore. Obviously, they do not possess the knowledge required to add meaningful changes/content that doesn't break the rest of the game.
Thus, since the game is too complex for FD staff to work on anymore (the Odyssey releases supports this statement) we can be happy if FD doesn't further break the game by touching it.
After some additional months of bug fixing and improvements, Odyssey will hopefully be in a playable state and AFTER that, we can start considering changes requested by the community. But as it stands now, FD has no input channel available/open and is working on cleaning up the mess ODyssey left behind ... and it's still MUCH to clean up.

You are making mining lances obsolete by a huge margin… it’s sadly not something what I would like. All these super engineered modules just further increases gap between players which can play and which can’t. Seems it’s purpose, but personally I think it’s wrong direction.

Of course. But I suspect they want to use FOMO to boost player numbers. But don't some of these end up at human tech traders? Like the C5 FSD?

So far they've been added to the tech brokers in order of appearance, so Missile Rack, FSD and DSS are available.

If they keep that pattern the (Marlinist) point defence is next.
