Modes Open and private MOD

Ah, one of these.

Open players: Open is best. Only in open can you get the full experience of the game. PvE is boring, NPCs are too easy. Playing in open is its own reward. Come to open, there its not like there is much extra risk in open, its fine, reports of gankers are highly exaggerated.

Also Open players: We should be rewarded for playing in Open.

Trying to help this game is like banging your head against a wall. Everybody in the forum is either a fanboy, or a philosopher with a bad attitude.
What is the reason the for ALL, i repeat all other MP games to have a system where PvP is rewarded 2x, and PvE 1x?

"End game" is when you finished grinding the money, ships and modules so you can compete with the best players. Then the reason to play is not the grind anymore.
Why do you think devs changed the engineers so you have to grind the modules again?
They too are beginning to understand what brings players to the game.

End game is only a construct you made up.. it doesn't exist in the game. Who can be most "uber" is plainly... vanity. If that is your intent in the game then I can understand why you feel Open has no "purpose"

There is a huge difference in trying to help the game and trying to change the game from what it is.

You can repeat that all you want, doesn't make it true. I've been playing MMO's since pretty much they came out. And in almost all of them PVP was not rewarded 2x vs PVE.. in fact please enlighten me as to which MMOs do this...

Or are you comparing Elite Dangerous to games it doesn't compare to again?

What day and time you want to compete with the best players? I'll wait for you in CQC, you choose the ships.

CQC is trash. Forget about it.

Get a medium ship and I will challange you any time in OPEN. Engineers are flat in 3.0. Everyone have the same stats so dont give me excuses about god rolls and grind.

Why is CQC trash? It provides quite a level playing field. A much better determiner of who is the better pilot over who has grinded the most.

Battle Arena games don't "reward" PvP as they are built for PvP. Some have "training" PvE fights which pay less but they also have no negative side either.
The only part of Elite that can be compared to an Arena is actually called "Arena" (CQC) and these griefers wont go play it, because it's a fair fight.

Games not built for PvP, don't give rewards for it as it is optional. (Warframe, Star Trek Online, Forsaken World..... this is a big list......).
Elite was not built for PvP - so it does not give special rewards for it.

So please stop saying "all games", because that's a lie and you know it. Some games reward PvP - those built for it.

I don’t think I’ve ever played a multi-player game where that’s the case, and I’ve been playing games like a Open Mode Elite Dangerous for over 25 years now. I’m sure there must be some that do this, given how frequent this request is, but I don’t remember them ever being successful.

Most Game Developers have learned from the ruins of games that, over the last 30 some years, tried to get PvE players, and the type of player so pathetic at PvP they need to attack PvE players, to play in the same environment. It’s a recipe for a dead game. Personally, I think FDs solution is better than most of the methods I’ve seen.

also?

"End game" is when you finished grinding the money, ships and modules so you can compete with the best players. Then the reason to play is not the grind anymore.

Quite frankly, if you can’t enjoy and thrive in Open in an unmodded Cobra III, being in a fully modded Corvette isn’t going to fundamentally change the game.

Also, Engineers is almost universally panned by the PvP community. It makes the PvE part of the game easier, and loved by players so pathetic at PvP that they attack newbies and transport ships, but by all accounts it’s turned PvP into an hour-long contest of who brought the most “health potions.”

I mean, it takes 30 minutes to decide a fight between two Chieftans? Ouch! I’ve had entire game sessions shorter than that.

Why would anybody choose to play open when there is no reward for it?
In all MP games PVP brings more rewards, so players know why are they risking more.
I simply can't think of why would anyone play Open if they get the same reward in Private.
MechWarrior, All Wargaming games, LOL... in every game you have PVP and PVE. In PVP you get twice the reward, and missions exclusive to that mod.
If PVP missions would give twice the reward, and be high level exclusive, you would get a lot more players and the game would be much better.

To play with real CMDRs in Open, meeting new friends, a helpful and kind community, eventually being challenged by CMDRs in opposition, is indeed a reward no AI and PvE mechanic will bring you.

Note, Open play regular, especially by players not taking this mode serious and or who never play it anyway, indeed more in fear of being shot at then anything, are curiously of the opinion the mode to be unbearable.
While, as those things turn out often enough, a majority very likely just enjoys Open and its challenges, a vocal group particular those not playing the mode unable to face the consequences, for what every reason,
wants to know, that the very special part of what makes Open such a win for the game - direct player interactions, in our case here particular "non consensual" player interactions, to become its demise&foul its fault and lastly its downfall! Listen to them, they want to know, Open is dying!

Funny what?

While Elite is not one of those all around PvP games you mentioned, Elite indeed focus the environment, with its special all together Open mode to be the exception. Here Commanders have the only chance for direct face to face competition. Modes in Elite, its demise&curse or its benefit&blessing, is much debated here. I am very curios indeed, why people not playing Open are so adamant into turning it into a cesspit and hell, here on the forum?!

I often compare PvP to spicy food. Some people cannot tolerate spice at all, and very much prefer their meals to be what some would consider bland. Others like to challenge each other to build fires in their mouths, the hotter the better. Some people prefer a little kick with their meals, but will never touch "Ring of Fire" hot sauce. Some people allow themselves to be persuaded by others to try the stuff, have a horrible experience, and swear "never again." Others only enjoy spicy food from time to time, for variety's sake, but wouldn't make a steady diet of it.

And some jerks think its funny to screw the lid of the spice jar, so the next person who uses it will have their meal ruined.

So why, do folks here blacken a game mode they are unwilling to be a part of? My question remains open, pun intended LOL

Many have been or still are open players to a greater or lesser degree, not all by any means, but a good few. Many of us have and continue to see the, shall we say 'borderline', behaviour of some open players. We've experienced it at CG's, at POI's, at engineer bases and at the Founders system among others. We have seen the patronising and insulting posting of said players on here, Reddit and other mediums, we've seen the salt mining videos, the straight up gank videos and the mocking video's - often insult and profanity laden by the way.

So this 'blackening' of the reputation of open is often justified, except the paint in many cases was applied by those who believe that not only open but the whole game 'belongs to them' from pretty very early in Elite D's life rather than those who've essentially said 'stuff it' to that kind of 'interaction'.

Because they honestly find that playing in Open is not fun. It doesn't matter if they only encounter one jerk a year, it's still one jerk too many. And quite frankly, your experience in Open can vary widely, depending upon the quality of your internet connection, what time you play, and where you live in the real world.

When my job changed from starting at 7am, to starting at 5am, my experience in Open changed drastically.

I went from this:

(bored tone) "Oh, look, someone's moving to interdict me. Again. Why do I put up with this? I can count on one hand the number of fun PvP pirates I've encountered, and have fingers left over if I remove Powerplay encounters. Well, I'm almost at my destination. Let's see if they can keep up with my deceleration maneuver. They overshot... WHAT a surprise."

to this:

(excited tone) "Oh, look! Someone's actually moving to interdict me! Do I have time to play? Yes, I do! OK, Mr. 'Pirate,' I'm slowing down enough so that you might be able to catch me. Let's see if I can plow you into a moon or something!"

Don't know. I know plenty of Open only proponents can be seen in Solo from time to time, so they have no grounds to diss it (and yes, i'm quite aware the question was targeted at the other side - but worth pointing out the reverse also applies).

Well, I am aware anecdotic evidence is questionable. Griefing is a part of any multiplayer environment sadly unavoidable, given human nature. While indeed there are less players online than say back a year or two, my personal experience contradicts the picture of Open mode portrait here in the forum.

Well, I just used solo the very first time at the ancient structures, cos the place was so noisy, brimming with Commanders frolicking around in their SRVs. I was constantly, accidentally shot at and pushed about. Damn the place should be approached with some decency, no? LOL So I used solo to get things quite and my stuff done. MY quest indeed was somewhat rhetorical yes.
