Open is BRUTAL...

So we have this 'who will be the next Power' CG, and I figured I'd go grab myself some Gems for SEPP. I go over to Maiki in my freshly specced Clipper (without imp rank *giggle*), and drop at the USS. I figured I'd be alone, but these USS are apparantly persistent, and a (mostly harmless) cmdr is grabbing stuff with his Python. Hmpf. I check his modules, and he's sporting three beams and two MCs. I think I can guess where each one is. I hail him, but get no response. He continues to manually scoop all gems, so I deploy my limpets. Getting a bit nervous, I park my clipper right in front of him. We're about 30m apart, standing still, staring at each other with hardpoints deployed. Then the inevitable happens.

Darn, that was some ice-cold killer right there! :)

I had a nasty run in with someone in Sirius.

Has hailed me, and asked "What are you up to?"
I responded with "Waiting for the Qwent mission to spawn! You?"
He replied with "Working on BGS stuff! Log in and out a few times, usually works!"
"Thanks!"

Made a new friend.

Lucky I survived such a harsh encounter.... ;)

Open is friendly really. It just has some stigma about it.
Of course, it has idiots. But no online game, ever created is lacking in idiots.
As i said in another post, most of these idiots are actually rubbish at PvP. Lol

Hehe, yep pretty sums up 99% of my time with cmdrs in open. It was a lot of worse before so I can understand why some would never come back, I lost a lot of ships in the early days, even then I made a lot of friends in Open and learnt how to survive. Now it's mainly cmdrs going about their business, in the past 8 months I've met a whopping two Cmdrs that I would consider griefers, both times they couldn't manage to kill me, likely just bored station campers.

I had an appalling time in open this evening. Commanders were apologizing for popping in to a (persistent) USS, and even saying hello.

I mean it was utter chaos what with the endless hellos and salutes and excuse me and mind if I collect and don't mind me and all sorts of ridiculous and horrific politeness.

Just unbelievably terrible experience throughout.

*chuckles quietly in the background*

Another terrible encounter with a player was at an outpost.
We both had Pythons, we we both needed the medium pad, unfortunately he had already beaten me to it.

I hailed him, saying "Greetings CMDR, are you going to be long?"
He replied "Hey, I'm just finishing up", and promptly took off.
I thanked him, and never saw him again.

Open is such a terrible place.

Lol

The NPCs are the worst. They hog the pad all day....!

Dang! I had this near death experience too!

Got a voice comm request, accepted and the commander was actually asking for game advice. Made a new friend.

So scary :D

Open is not the beast that many people think it is.

the ONLY times I have had a "bad" experience with CMDRs was when I was flying around in Eravate actively hunting Duchebags who were actively hunting noobs. by bad I mean they interdicted me while I was trying to interdict them.

Hate to be the devils advocate in the room, but while everything you are saying is true, when you do get trashed by another player for lulz while on a time sensitive mission or cargo haul, it just plain sucks.

A full review of the crime system is needed so that there are long-term penalties for being a destructive tool.

Brutal indeed.

I mean, how dare another Commander harass me with comms just to say thanks and o7 whilst I am allowing them through the slot before exiting at a busy station. I only do it to laugh at the ones coming through sideways at speed anyway :p Such a disgrace!

I also got told off once for not following the greens... I can't take the abuse! its Brutal!

I don't play exclusively in open though, but when I do.. its nothing like its portrayed.

Shhhh. Nobody is supposed to know that the majority of people crying about open make up an exceedingly small minority or have never really played in it anyway

Exactly.

To get a fight with other CMDR you need really to try. Most of people are just saying 'hello'.
2 years ago i just departed from a station and some commander wrote to me 'nice ship!'. I flew Imperial Clipper, and there were no many of people who had proper rank for it.
Few months ago i had similar situation, some folk wrote to me 'i newer saw a cutter before'.

We did smalltalk and everyone flew into the his direction.

It is really very amazing to me how the people could talk and talk how open is bad when i am playing ONLY in Open since 2 years, and i do not have a problems here. if i want pew-pew then i need to fly to the location where i know i find someone other folks who are searching for trouble. Normal playing is 100% encounters without deploying a hardpoints.

More people die, and complain about it, to NPCs than players by quite a large amount.

I'm highly surprised these people aren't demanding PvN(othing) mode.

I do get your point, but then i thought, well why not? Not that im a miner but they have combat focused aspects in game like CQC...why not let miners ...mine free of pirates :D---of course allow CQC rewards on some level remain with the CMDR too

You can just mine a few 100ly outside of the bubble and be completely safe though.
