Modes Open Mode Balancing Proposal... Open PvE

You mean a gotton gud flag or something?

When you have gitted gud you can active the gotton gud flag and be elegible for PvP? Your ship is then flagged to all other CMDRs to show off what a awesome dude you are and how you welcome PvP?

Nope my dear Aunt.

A Gitted Gud player simply makes scrubs, pew-pews, squeakers, com irritants and other such detritus - blink for a second and believe they still exist :D

Aww.... someone upset that their veiled insults were called out?

I'm a bit miffed that you thought they were "veiled".

I thought they were quite direct, tbh. I'll be more blunt in future.

You want to claim I am arrogant?

Sure, but at this point I don't really need to.

Look, I've always maintained a "leave it alone" stance on the game modes. I don't want to see Open-only things, neither do I want to see Open-PvE mode.

The current system is the most flexible and for all its flaws is actually the least problematic.

Personally, I would prefer the devs continue with their planned roadmap and improve the core gameplay, rather than get distracted by catering to minorities who want changes to the modes.

You may be surprised but I agree mostly with this portion of your post. I haven't been the one clamoring for change and the PVErs who have asked for change, have done it mainly in response to the subset of PVPers who want to change the game.

A PVE Open would also add flexibility and less of a strain on Mobius admins for the groups.. but I am not holding my breath or holloring for it.

Pragmatism? In this thread?

Is that allowed? :)

You're going to deliver your posts in a cringing high pitched whiny voice?

edit: I ask a lot of questions?

I think that is a bad idea. PvP has a role to play in ED.

I'm pretty torn about what FD should do about it though. On the one hand I think in the last year or so they have spent too much effort trying to deal with PvP related issues that have cost development time that could have gone into other things for all players to enjoy... on the other hand, i think at least some of it was needed, although the new C&P system makes me weep because it breaks one of the most fundamental axioms of programming, KISS. Its a horribly messy complicated system.

I strongly think We dont understand the Crime and Punishment because half of the game is missing.

Even though it works in all 3 modes.

The Crime and Punishment is built around the player much more. As a PVPer and someone that likes the BGS I understand it. It makes sense to me.

But we're missing half that interaction. A lot of people liked the old way it worked because it was geared around NPC's. Then the player base demanded new crime and punishment built around the player.

And here we are. Now people dont understand it, because they didnt understand what they asked for.

And thats for Crime and Punishment to be based around PVP activities.

Does any of this make sense? Or do ya'll think im still crazy :D

I have a better plan. Remove the BGS and PP from the safe spots and create a proper war instead of a grind competition in private groups.

It's actually better to push PvP where it belongs, the Arena.
Then the rest of us can get on with our Space Truck Simulator / Google Space Explorer.

Also, there are no "safe spots" - people can and do die in all the modes.

If this was actually a space truck simulator I would agree, but the current game is geared much more towards combat than anything else. Its the only area that is complete and does not need additional development (notice I said combat not PvP).

It is actually a space combat simulator with some minor aspects of exploration and trade.

In the months leading up to the C & P revamp, it wasn't difficult at all to read between the lines of what some people were asking for. A great many of those demanding that crime be punished were actually just advocating that PvP be punished (since that was the "crime" foremost in their minds), while they themselves carry on with everything they've been doing to uphold their cr/hr.

Then when 3.0 hit and C & P applied to everyone and not just the "greeferz", large portions of the community had their infamous "but I didn't mean for meee!!!!" meltdown.

The PvP community seems to have largely adapted and carried on.

Odd. I can remember me and quite a few others arguing for consistent C&P regardless whether it was a player or an NPC. Must have slipped your selective observation I guess. Oh wait, between the lines. Yeah, I see :)

Also, I haven't seen the large portions of the community having a meltdown over it. Must have slipped mine.

Well, look again, just this forum had at least 3 threads a day complaining about c&p, same with reddit and FB.

It's perfectly understandable if the legions of "WHAT HAPPENED ALL I DID WAS SHOOT A COP/SKIMMER/MINER AND THEN GOT BLASTED GAYME IS BROKEN!!!!" threads on Facebook, Reddit, and these august forums all melded together as a singular complaint in anyone's mind.

Pretty funny how that worked out. Everyone and their mother tried to tell them.

I remember reading posts about the Grom missile when that was released. People lost their damn minds.

Personally, I know the devs will completely ignore the issue (as far as modes are concerned), and the game will continue to improve, and the PVP players will get frustrated and leave, or increase their griefing to make their point, then the new 'mode evangelists' will move in and the never ending cycle of 'modes suck' continues on.

At the end of this year, when nothing changes..again....it would be to FDevs benefit if PVP players would work as one voice, and stream that PVP is a mess, it will never be fixed, no one should ever play it, let the PVP community have a funeral for their collective sore tukuses and let PVP die.

I tried to tell people...but they wouldn't listen....but it also seems there are other people with that same issue on other issues within the game.

If only I could get them to understand how wrong they are!

That's practically a public service, it advertises the game as having consequences to people who would enjoy that and can shoot straight.

PvP players have had an advantage since the game's release in being able to engage targets at will, and all they've done since is complain about the BGS, PP and other aspects of multiplayer. Meanwhile, PvE players have to resort to utilizing Private Groups in order to play without harassment from PvP players.

I'm quite sure FD would see a lot more gratitude from PvE players for providing such an experience, enjoying what they've been given instead of the attitude displayed by some who can't apparently see they've been given an entire sandbox and can do nothing but complain about how others play their game.

I propose adding PvP/PvE flagging by utilizing the Wings mechanic that exists in the game (thus eliminating a need for reworking the entire game) by using the threshold to flag participation in PvP. Similar to other games that use a consensual flag, unless a player explicitly toggles on PvP, they're unable to take damage from other players.

Private Groups would then no longer be a "necessity" for PvE players who don't wish to engage in direct PvP in Open. This proposal would not detract from PvP players in Open- as those who wish to engage in PvP in Open already do so, but rather add to the experience for everyone else who would like a much simpler system to group up and experience the game together.

The advantage of this would also be twofold, as it would expand participation in Open- allowing for a more populated experience for everyone involved.

I'd also like to see Solo players be able to utilize NPC's as a balance to the existing Wings system that's available to Open/PG's players so that force multiplication is available in all modes, and not just the two multiplayer modes available.

IMO - it's time that PvE players received some much needed attention from FD, instead of constantly trying to cater to a group of players that do nothing but complain about what they've been given.

In the past I've also suggested a totally separate mode, Open PvE, with no PvP allowed. Many games have modes like this, or areas that are for PvP only.

A PVE Open would also add flexibility and less of a strain on Mobius admins for the groups.. but I am not holding my breath or holloring for it.

+Rep

The whole way the Mobius PG has to be managed just makes a lot of work for players - those both joining and administrating it.

All the time spent on that could be eliminated with a fourth mode, Open PvE, which would simply turn off PvP damage as so many other games do.

PS: Not sure why so many replies resorted to insulting the poster because he doesn't think like them. Folks, talk like that IRL will reward you with a fat lip or black eye, so all you're really doing is showing your true stripes by insulting folks from the safety of mommy's basement. But YOU CAN change your stripes - instead of insults try adding something constructive.

Having a universe where some ships are simply immune to being fired upon would absolutely kill the realism and immersion of the game. If you can't handle the idea of being challenged by other players, stick to PG or solo.

And no, I don't care what "other MMOs" do. Open PvE-only mode is a terrible idea.

I wouldn't say it's complete.
After all, the C&P system is part of the combat system, and well.... that's going "well" so far isn't it ;)
So there is still more to do and to tweak combat side of things.

It is actually a space combat simulator with some minor aspects of exploration and trade.

Trade isn't a minor part of Elite. It's part of the core game play.
It's one of the few aspects that hasn't had a massive overhaul or been completely forgotten.

Combat and Trade are the 2 main earners.
I think Exploration still needs some help.

I guess it probably has slipped a few other peoples minds how many of the issues people have with C&P now were highlighted by those of us who played in open and engaged in criminal activities.

Explorers content or proposals usually get shot down by the 'mah cr/hr' brigade.

Alas I know, I've seen those conversations.

I think Frontier needs to address this whole cr/hr nonsense, take peoples minds of it with actual content.
Because 3 years on and the entire game is still about buying stuff (ships / upgrades etc...) not enjoying the stuff you have with interesting game play.

This is exactly why I got into PVP. And why people ask for it to be more interactive. Because it was the only thing left. And it has much room for improvement because it can be rather enjoyable. Honestly Engineered PVP can be pretty relaxing. Its like a dance. Put on some good music and try your best.
