Open play trolls

The deer that is slowest gets caught. They don't need to be amazing runners, just faster than the slowest other deer.

And competitive PvE is very much a thing. Consider the Elite ranks for example :)

Very true as a Warlock in World of Warcraft. I was number 1 on the server in gearscore, And we competed in DPS numbers on recount. The reason we did that was to be the BEST GUILD on the server. We ended up competing with other guilds to climb to the top.

This is way different than what we have here though. People are intentionally PVEing against one another by attacking player systems. Thats where PVP should be enabled.

I miss the smiley, or are you serious about that?

Yeah, I am. Come out to open and find out ;)

Sound like another opportunity to roll out the old Bartle test :D

While I agree that open is open, you learn to survive or private group, the phrase 'git gud' is grating not only on the eyes, but my brain actively lashes out at those who speak it. So I agree with your point, That90skid, but not with your delivery. Telling someone to google 'Survival in open' isn't all that taxing. Git gud is something I would actively throat punch someone for IRL.

As to PvE, the only realization of it in Elite, as a competitive notion, is BGS. I don't even do BGS very often, however I believe all BGS influence should be reduced by 95% or so if you are in solo or private group.

Why should I? To get killed? You would kill me, no doubt.

But I am apex-PVE-predator,
deliverer of a hundred-forty-thousand tonnes of relief material to Oracle and Malthus,
I scanned 101 obelisks of the guardians,
I fly prismatic shielded in mobius and am master of FAon.

I don't have to prove myself against your superior skills, as I am playing a GAME to have FUN. Respect that or I leave you alone in open...

;)

"Don't make me not punish you... cuz I will. I SO will..."

Thats where PVP should be enabled.

It's still not that game. After your bedtime, while you are at school/college or just simply through different ping times and instances this sort of play is not really possible.

The game is not going to be rewritten so that it is for the sake of a few.

I see some posters still have the bizarre belief that the Elite D forumites, the moderators and the dev team cannot or do not read anything outside of these boards. Honestly, it's hard to have sensible discourse here when you see what folk are being called on Reddit, certain Facebook groups and other mediums because of their play choices or preferences.. I try not to, but I've crossed the line a good few times on here, I've apologised when I've felt it was needed and maybe missed a few when I should have and that is irrespective of which side of the PVP/PVE debate those posters fell on.

The extremes of both sides are toxic, more so away from these more heavily moderated boards, but here both sides are moderated - contrary to popular belief from some here, my 'bad boy' list is testament to that as I'm sure many others are. Both sides have suffered threats to themselves, their property and more, all are totally unacceptable and should be condemned regardless of PVP/PVE bias.

Tensions are going to run high on occasion though, that is understandable and human nature to a degree, people make threats, people cheat, people lie, people exaggerate and people know when they are being insulting even if they pretend they aren't. All it takes is a bad day at work, a row with the missus, a bit too much whiskey the night before and the fuse can be lit by a baiting post. It is the select few that are immune to this, for the rest of us it is about recognising when you are being a tommy tanker and either correcting your postings or apologising to the person you've been a muppet to - yeah, I know, never gonna happen on any scale that matters - therein lies part of the problem.

I agree that Skid is looking for a different game. I hope s/he gets it.

Our player faction and other places like discord or the powerplay subreddits have really good communication. And people all over the world. Furthermore when you attack a specific system people are usually within a certain amount of light years. If cant see them someone else in the groups can. This even goes for ps4 and Xbox players if certain things were restricted to open play.

Here are two videos for you to watch, https://www.twitch.tv/videos/232364143

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tobMVjSMnQ This was a BGS war with mobius. These prove its totally capable of being done.

And then there is this guy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnYXTh4TCVo

So yeah, it can be done. Because I or my player group has done it.

The Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology
You are 100% Explorer
What Bartle says:

♠ Explorers delight in having the game expose its internal machinations to them. They try progressively esoteric actions in wild, out-of-the-way places, looking for interesting features (ie. bugs) and figuring out how things work. Scoring points may be necessary to enter some next phase of exploration, but it's tedious, and anyone with half a brain can do it. Killing is quicker, and might be a constructive exercise in its own right, but it causes too much hassle in the long run if the deceased return to seek retribution. Socialising can be informative as a source of new ideas to try out, but most of what people say is irrelevant or old hat. The real fun comes only from discovery, and making the most complete set of maps in existence.

Genuinely, I have rolled this link out a few times now & never seen anyone get 100% in anything ;) I'm AEKS btw.

Regarding BGS... That's a point where I am on your side honestly. BGS/PP (and CGs imho) should be totally optional, more incentivized and open only. That would force the people who want to do it to get a lot more into PvP. On the other hand I would raise the punishment for crimes against clean/unpledged CMDRs by several orders of magnitude. But that is a discussion for another thread.

Christ 90s, how many times can you keep trotting out that nearly year old video, jesus.

Because it proves the point. People are using it to their advantage to attack other players. He knows hed be stopped if he came out to open play. But instead because they decided to UA bomb us we had no choice but to farm materials.

Just like Doves Enigma, if the game were different people could blockade a system, use a manifest scanner on people, And actually give pvp meaning to this game besides griefing.

Or do you want it to stay the way it is now?

I like the game how it is, no need to start messing with the modes. Not that it's ever going to happen anyway.

The guy in that video was trolling you.
