Open PvE

The best thing to do with trollish posters who go around calling people cowards in the forum is to report their posts for using insults and flamebating then place them on ignore. Then perhaps the one who has named themselves after a large smelly dairy product will get the message and roll off down a hill somewhere.

So, a large proportion of reddit users play in open. In other news, conservatives vote Tory, family of murder victims are more likely to be for the death penalty, and turkeys are against Christmas. Psephology 101 has called to ask you to return your unopened textbook.

I'd love to see the metrics from FD. I'm convinced the majority play in solo, but, of course, my conviction doesn't mean anything.

I wasn't going to buy this game when I saw it would be online only. I can't stand PvP - I barely play chess any more, I stick to games like Pandemic or Pathfinder. I get no thrills from blowing up someone's spaceship. Some friends convinced me and I play in a group with them. I would love an open PvE mode. Building sand castles together is more fun. You want to kick things down? That's fine, I'll go play on another beach.

Of course, the market has shown us that I'm not alone - and if 6000 people have found their way to a barely advertised, gated community run by one guy, then the market is talking louder than any survey.

It is now up to 6898, so near 7000.

Thanks for supplying me with a healthy chuckle. :)

Indeed. :)

Are you listening FD?

I wonder how many would push that PvE button on the main menu, if they had the choice. I know I would. And give Mobius a chance to play at the same time too. I frequently see him logging on and off again within a few minutes, clearly just to accept group requests. FD should be paying the man.

In case anyone is interested, "Fishing Was Good!!", caught 4 catfish, total weighing in at about 11Lbs." Great day at the lake.

As for you, "Gold Member" your silly survey, actually surveys less than .009% of the customer base if we assume only 400K copies of the game have been sold. Since I think were all pretty certian were actually pushing the heck out of 500K copies, I think its safe to assume the actual percentage is far less than .009% surveyed. In short, your surveys full of crap.

So lets cut thru the serious crap here! What difference does it make weather we PVE in "Mobius", or a Formal PVE mode? What's the bottom line here!

PS "Bigcheese", one more insult and I'm reporting you to the mods!!! That goes for anyone else here.

Threats don't deserve a report? lmao. ALL BE ADVISED SOMEONE WILL REPORT YOU.

Survey's are a time tested way to get feedback. The sample size only has to be representative. I checked the survey. OPEN is still at 2/3 after two days. when 1500 people had responded, it was at 67%. At 4000 respondents, it's at 66%. Pretty consistent spread in the answers. Tells me there was no artificial bump anywhere as a group suddenly found it and all answered one way.

And this goes around and around and around. At least there is a current data set to work with. It's remarkable that the 2/3 playing in open has remained consistent even as the number of respondents has gone up by a few thousand. I was really quite surprised that it neither went down or up by significant amounts throughout the day. And a sample size representing a significant percentage of active players (I do not use Reddit) who are engaged enough to use this forum or Reddit as an adjunct to the game is more valid than the last hundred threads I've read that complain about wanting something that imho is not going to happen any time soon.

This is one of those times when a survey is accurate with a few percentage points 19 times out of 20.

A super majority of people play open. End of story.

You can witter on about sample sizes and statistics all day (and you probably will) but the only "accurate" demonstrable assessment as pointed out in Krow's post that you quoted is that the survey tells us nothing about the opinions of the "super majority" of players that are totally unaware of the survey's existence and/or can't be bothered to vote.

I'm starting to wonder if your some kind of closet PVE supporter trying some fiendish reverse psychology tactics because all you seem to do is stimulate the kind of responses that you're apparently trying to suppress.

Open PvE mode / Mobius group. It's like the difference between hair and fur. You are calling for something you've already got, but with a different name.

Mobius aren't going anywhere, and even if the 'group' did all the members would just start up another.

Surveys work. This one may have selection bias, but it's better than making numbers up out of thin air, or just guessing. But, the survey does not hurt our case for Open PvE. Consider that, out of 500k players, 165k have maybe eschewed Open (if 66% is consistent in larger scale). That's a *big* group, that has contributed at least 11.5 million (Canadian) dollars to FD's coffers. Are the current Solo and Group features serving this large minority well? I'm not sure of that, and I think Open PvE would better serve this playstyle. That's why I began this discussion.

and it would take weeks or months to rebuild, and would probably splinter into a few competing groups, which is what tends to happen in these situations

People who don't vote don't get a voice. Are you claiming to speak for all of those unheard voices? Do you have phone numbers or email addresses so we can alert them about, what I'm not sure exactly?

Everyone who wants to PVE in an open world can already do so. Who is trying to 'suppress' responses?

I think they're just asking for more visibility of the play style they were promised and paid for.

The sample percentage isn't even close to being valid, you know it, and I know it. Go ahead an insult, if you want. I wasn't threatening. If this dialog can't remain respectful, and on topic, the mods need to get involved.

THEN GO GET THE MOD. Quit being a crybaby about it. Don't touch me or I'll tell....do it my way or I'll tell. lol.

It's safe to assume the ignore feature works. I'll be using it.

I'll bash all of your heads together if you don't all wind it in a bit and settle down.

This uberthread will just keep going round and round in circles getting more and more heated otherwise.

If it get's any worse we're going to have to start timing it out so people can take a breather from the topic.

I still haven't seen one concrete valid reason why we shouldn't have a formal "PVE All" choice. I'd like to hear some actually. As side from the insults.

I'm afraid that as long as FD doesn't take a stand on this issue, this thread is also bound to spawn again and again. There are a real need and a real issue here, FD has to do something about it, in a way or another.

The only reason against it at the current time is the policing of the mode and whether it would take extra coding time to disable weapons fire or extra man hours for the support team to police.

People advocating Pve mode can't decide on whether it's best to disable player weapons on another player completely (immersion breaking) or risk players having to ticket being blown up by another player who accidentally or intentionally blew up their ship.

Ahh, a valid point!! You know I always enjoy your posts. Nothing's ever perfect. By the way nice thread ya opened up their. Good read. I'd like to keep it just like "Mobius". but there would more than likely some administrators to
police the group. $$

You can't see the difference between one private individual hosting a game through a bare bones group feature, and FD implementing the mode onto their main menu?

I see no point in discussing this issue any futher with you. Maybe you should spend time in other threads, and let those who can see the difference discuss it in peace?

Fly safe

Google up "self-selection bias". It's why forum pools can't be trusted, even when they attract thousands of respondents; serious statisticians should never mix up the size of the sample with its quality.

Kinda similar to how Turbine, monitoring the LotRO forums, found out that the raiding and PvP players added together are less than 10% of the player base but actually correspond to over 50% of the players that frequent the forums. Any forum pool on how many players engage in those activities would, obviously, be heavily biased there.

Similar to how forum pools in Star Citizen tend to show most players expect to mainly play PvP, but the official pool that touched that topic (which was advertised on the game's front page, rather than the forums) showed most of the respondents looking forward mostly to PvE.

In any subject where sociable people tend to have a different opinion to introverts you will find a large bias in any pool that uses self-selection. The choice of open, solo, or group modes in ED is likely one of those subjects.
