Open PvE

Yea I did forget about that one. It is kinda is unfortunate that all that pressure is on Mobius to keep it running. However that could easily be solved by fd adding better group tools, ways to appoint moderators that can accept and kick players.

True.

But I'd rather have the company who owns the game be in charge of who gets kicked and who is playing properly.
An official PvE mode would be just that, the only people with any pressure or responsibility would be FD and their CS team.
Not a small group of players (or a single player) who could change their minds over the direction of a group at any time.

In truth It is not really changing things up, at least not in the way some PVPers want. They are not asking for a completely separate server separate from the BGS or forcing people into a certain Mode. They are simply asking that instead of Solo, Open, and then having to search for a PVE group like Mobius, that there is simply a mode that they can go to. It would make groups like Mobius unnecessary and quite possibly bring more people together as they leave the groups and join in the mode. It would not fracture things more. And Group would still be there for those who just want to play with their friends.

As for the open becoming only for combat professions with traders vacating open, as I have said many times before, you need to look at those who are causing them to leave open. If they encounter someone like you, even loosing cargo they are usually enjoying the experience of the RP and not lose everything. But if they are blasted to heck and their cargo looted, why would they want to stay in open and just be some person's target?

Or just have a PVE mode so people dont' have to make the groups and ask for better tools..

and with that.. time I crashed for a few hours. Will reply to any replies when I'm more coherent :p
All it would take is a few too many times vs even legit pirates to drive most players to pve mode.

Personally, if I were in the group, I'd rather have mobius and his appointees run the group rather than fd. Judging how lenient they have been on hackers and combat loggers, fd doesn't fill me with confidence that they could police a pve mode.

You know, now you say that I'm thinking you're right.
Mobius has only had a handful of incidents in 9 months, resolved very quickly - FD still didn't solve ram griefing in stations even after applying a fix.

I think I may refocus my efforts in to getting in game Adverts for Mobius on the station billboards and get the tools he needs to run the group and appoint assistants for it.

And no matter how many times this fatal flaw is pointed out, people will still continue to insist that Open PvE is the best solution.

Holy crap somebody listened! After 200 posts someone finally listened!

well obviously the best solution would be to have mobius group option added to the games main page and FD pay mobius a salary to run it properly ;)

but something tells me that is going to happen..... but the thing is, it is a circular arguement.

Some players claim mobius group is irrelevant as it is such a tiny amount of players and therefore it is clear the majority do not want it

others counter that the only reason "only" 11K sign up is because it is not a fully supported mode and only the select few who visit the forums know about it.

and others worry that Mobius will get sick of spending hrs of his free time monitoring the group and move on (I would not blame him, I often see him signed into the game but just in the main menu... its not an insignificant amount of time and I can only assume he is doing the "paper work" of maintaining the group.... really other than being a nice chap, what is the long term motivation for this if it takes so much time as to mean he does not even get to play the game ?!)

A "PvE mode" is not a better solution to Mobius group short term imo..... but long term it may be the only option.

People listened...... - or at least I did! - its just that I worry that Mobius is possibly not a long term solution for 10s of 1000s of players.

That all depends on how motivated those tens of thousands of players are. Groups that big require more coordination, but you also have a larger talent pool to pull from. Find the right managers and it takes care of itself.

Edit: And also, if you want to ease the workload of the managers, petition for an in-game as well as menu UI for group management, that way they don't have to log out, dig through menus and log back in if something comes up while they're playing, they can just take care of it while cruising or something.

Wouldn't hurt to have an employee or two of Frontier as back ups though, just in case.
Leave the main stuff to Mobius and whomever he chooses as managers, but drop in a person from CS and perhaps the FD community manager as back ups.

You don't need to actively devote someone from FD to helping manage the group, typically customer support gravitates towards helping the management of large groups like that on their own because facilitating the community effort makes their job in customer support easier.

Still would not hurt to have Zac, Edward or Brett involved - the community is their job, so seeing them actively involved in running the PvE group would go a long way to showing FD are supporting PvE only play styles.
After all, they are supporting PvP play styles with CQC, why not have Mobius Group as the "official" PvE group and have someone fly the flag (so to speak) from FD in the group.

Wouldn't hurt at all, I was just suggesting that instead of adding that to your list and making it seem like another hoop for FD to jump through, let it happen naturally and see if things don't happen faster that way.

Can't keep giving you +rep, the system's clearly against common sense! :(

main issue I have is people having to search for a PVE group. Mode's for solo and Open/PVP are right there.. but if they want Open type PVE they have to dig and find.

Nowhere in any of my statements did I say that griefing was the norm. I only stated, and proved, that there is no safe haven from it on a public server.

Of course a lot of people leave the game, because they don't know what they're getting into. That's expected. You have no idea what my style of play is, because if it was what you find on Eve I'd still be playing it, wouldn't I?

One of the most important lessons I've been taught in life is that if someone has more experience than you in a certain subject and offers some friendly advice, the wisest decision is to shut up and take it even if you think they are wrong.

I've been playing MMOs with Open PvP for over 20 years. I've been playing PvE MMOs for over 20 years. I've played Mixed MMOs for over 20 years. When one community is supported over another, initially, and that community is dominant in population, the smaller community's best bet at getting support for their style of gameplay is asking for the facilitation of being able to support themselves. When you guys ask for an Open PvE server you are putting your request and future support of any features implemented entirely at the mercy of FD's time, money, and patience. People acting like phalluses is an inexhaustible resource. Frontier's time and money are painfully finite.

One of the games I played 20 years ago was a MUD with full open PvP mechanics. Kill anyone, anywhere, no punishment beyond going to jail for a few minutes if you scrubbed them in town. The game had a PvE oriented player base despite the PvP mechanics, because they policed themselves. Murderers were hunted down and executed by the community on their first offense, if they continued to act out people would actively seek them out wherever they were and maim or kill them. Strip them of their possessions and blacklist them with every player merchant. The game is still alive and well after almost 25 years of being online, solely because of that community.

You guys? One whiff of multi-cannon powder and it's solo mode for the rest of the year. You have no one to blame but yourselves for Open play becoming a PvP community. You had every opportunity to police it yourselves and push the PvP players into Private groups just like the players in that MUD did 20 years ago, but instead you grabbed your blankie and ran to FD to cry and fuss and ask them to fix what wasn't broken. There is a reason your cries are falling on deaf ears. You already have the tools to fix the problem.

However, since you're not willing to fix the problem, your best bet is to ask them to fix what really is broken to help you in your pursuit of getting around the problem. The private group tools are abysmal and need refinement anyways. If you bent your efforts towards getting FD to beef up the private group system so that it made recruiting and maintenance easier, you would have a superior solution to Open PvE.

You are an exceptionally objectionable character who continually insults players who don't agree with your opinions or style of play, as such I will add you to my ignore list. I know you won't mind if I do that, flamers and trolls like your good-self are just very boring.

I'm not insulting others--however, you, Sir, I have noticed, are /quite/ aggressive when it comes to talking about Open/Solo/PvE. I suggest you calm down a little.

This is a thread suggesting there be Open PvE. I'm of course responding in kind with my own two cents that there not be such a thing. You don't seem to like that. I see you viciously attack people all the time on these forums for even suggesting there be PvP. Chill out, man.

I love the way PVP players seem to believe that open is PVP mode. It has only fallen that way because there is no control.
Here is a novel idea, make open PVE only, by putting a no player action flag on all vehicles in open. The PVP players could then form a large group like the present Mobius but it would be for PVP only. The only reason I would see PVP players not wanting that situation, would be because they would only be able to attack other Players in that PVP group who wanted PVP or AI.

There is actually more reason now for doing this as we have CQC about to be released and you can play your capture the flag, kill the other player games in your own instance.

I only get irascible with people who like to imply that there is anything wrong with anybody's choice in play style and insinuate that this is somehow indicative of their moral character or capability as a person as a whole. Quite simply put: None of you are qualified to judge anyone based solely upon how they play a video game no matter what sort of horrible first world problems it may give you an illusion of inflicting upon you. When you start going off the deep end, I will call you on it every time.

Here is another novel idea, Open is not PvP only. The only reason Mobius exists is because instead of players choosing to actively support their own style of play they chose to hide from any potential problems and pretend they don't exist. That is purely a personal problem created by the PvE community, who vastly outnumbers the PvP community, entirely through their own free will.

They made a choice.

Ahem. The only reason PvE players are screaming "Nooooo must have PvE safety flags!" is because they are unwilling to police themselves and run the PvP players out of town in even combat. Open is open. It isn't PvE. It isn't PvP. It is open which means emergent gameplay. If you don't like players flying around killing other players, form a police force, fly around and hunt them down.

It is that simple. To argue they turn Open into PvE only is the most asinine thing I have ever heard! What part of the word "open" is hard to comprehend?
