OPEN QUESTION TO DEVS

I've noticed that the GraphicsConfiguration.xml file doesn't do much (or anything?) when you are playing in VR. Can you confirm this?

If you have more time, can you please let us know which settings would work?

Either way, can I request that you unlock this, even if it means we need to make a GraphicsConfigurationOverrideVR.xml file to get settings to work?

Would be so nice to see a dev here again. I may have missed it as I took a long break, but I personally haven't seen a dev here for about 3 years

I've done them too and I don't see a difference, but ok cool, I might be wrong as it's subtle and based on LoDs. There are def settings that don't work, like the ones in the GalaxyMap section

Did you do the changes in the appropriate sections? For example if you modify the ultra settings but you don't use it, you see no difference.

Hi, given that I made the EDProfiler tool that automatically sets these settings for you, I would trust that I know what I am talking about. Now could we get a dev in here somehow?

That made me smile.. I blame some form of time slip or quantum duck eggs or something, but am sure your first post was a minute before this one :p

Yes, I thought the comment would not suit being in the first post, as I know the devs are busy and didn't want to waste more of their time than I had to

I just re-read my response to you and I apologise - that came off way more dismissive than it did in my head. I was just trying to establish that I know what I am talking about because I wanted to avoid a derail of people asking if I've done it correctly.

FYI I can prove that some of the settings (galaxy-brightness related settings) don't work in VR. Some I am not sure about (planet textures), some I know work (galaxy background quality).

It would just be much easier if a dev would clear things up, as well as let us know if we can somehow unlock the definitely locked-out settings.

Hmmm, I’ve never seen any devs respond to requests regarding the graphics config file. ...Apart from Mr Brooks during beta asking people not to change the settings.
I have noticed however since 2.4 - 3.0 that changing the galaxy background to 4K doesn’t have any affect anymore. The galaxy background used to sharpen right up and include more detail. But no longer.

Strange, works fine for me! I crank it up to 5000, seems the sweet spot for my VRAM, but I've tested up to 8K. I think if you go over that, the background seems to vanish...

Ok well if FD don't want us fiddling with them (which begs the question why they exposed them in the first place) then I won't expect any response. This thread may die.

Ah, maybe the galaxy background has been ‘fixed’ then. It stayed blurry what ever setting one tried some time ago. I will experiment when next in game.

Hey drkaii. Quick update. I went into the GraphicsConfiguration file and set galaxy background to 4096 from 2048. And returned back into the game, couldn’t see any difference ?
Barnards loop looked the same as did the galactic core. Before, (on a monitor) the general blurriness of the core would sharpen up. And the nebulous clouds of barnards loop would become more defined. So yes, nothing appeared to happen, in VR that is ..(as per your OP). haven’t compared results to monitor though.

...April 2017 was the last update where the galaxy background could be made 4K on a monitor.
