Modes Open seeming terribly safe these days?

Thatd be fine, but there needs to be a reason why you’d go to them. I.e. Some reason why daring traders in search of high reward and adventure (like me) might run into murderous scoundrels.

Careful now, you are boarding on the idea of creating content!

Have suggested before that Anarchy systems have higher pay out for traders and that criminals could be repaired in black market systems at a higher price then normal (as if they were in a chop shop getting repaired from stolen parts).

Once you've experienced enough of this game you'll come to realize that the emergent content IS the only content. If we ever get to the point where "bad guys" can't be bad guys anymore, this game won't be worth playing for a whole lotta people.

I’ll tell you that even playing for as short a time as I have, I can see my perspective going in that direction. I certainly see the need for creating rewards for both traders and criminals that would allow there to be a decent balance of both in open. I think we ought to flat out disregard the people who seem to think that number crunching in space should be without risk, I’ve never understood the hype of doing what could be done with a nice excel spreadsheet. The fun of trading to me would seem to be a sort of old world style. The running or fighting every once in a while of pirates and brigand, the danger of being a rogue trader (hue hue 40k). It does however seem that this would require a level of acceptance from the pvp community as well. The understanding that if some sort of criminal style play was encouraged that it be done in a style that we can all live with, not that you’ll ever get the entire community to agree obviously.

Anarchies should be the place where you can shift ill gotten gains for the right price. To accomplish this, the anarchy first needs to have to deal with shortages due to the fact that well respected systems don't want to have anything to do with trading with filthy anarchies. Which also means, if them well respected systems find out you are trading with anarchy systems, you might not be as welcome.

There's all the ingredients there to create some environment in which non-mission smuggling, when done right, could bring a big profit. The danger in that case isn't the guys in the anarchy system, but those in the high security ones who don't appreciate you dealing with scoundrels.

I agree. Plenty of players like to play to the money making meta, doing boring tasks only because it's easy money. Make the big money meta have it's end point in populated anarchies and make it something that can be pirated (cargo not data). If the Player carries This particular commodity into this type of system have the game spawn a particularly challenging NPC (Aliens want their eggs back kind of thing).

My friend's list* is as active as its ever been.
*I only have five friends, so...

Meanwhile, out in the black, I am convinced my ship is being followed by space mermaids, and over here there be dragons. Lots of dragons. Dragons are quite active in Elite now. My skin is crawling. What is this on my skin? I can't get it off. No matter how hard I scratch... it's still there... I need a knife. Oh god.... oh god oh god.... what have I done? Now it's INSIDE ME! GET IT OUT!

Personally I think there should be a reason to even play the game anymore, let alone any of the modes.

The thing following you is a space whale. They love to surf the gravity wave behind you in super cruise. It’s a free ride for them.

You will be told shortly that everyone is still playing in Private Groups and Solo because griefers killed Open.

Have you ever heard the story of Darth Fearful the PG player? He was so fearful he once even left Private Groups to hide in Soylo mode.
It's not a story the Sith would tell you, it's a FDEV story.

Do you realise how stupid some of you sound? In some of these other modes are players who have taken part in real-life warzone and seen stuff that would turn your hair white and you think calling them cowards in a sub-forum makes you look good? Have you no shame or do you like looking a fool?

I think goading is their point. And to be fair, we don't know what life experiences they have gone through to cause them to behave this way. All you can do is try to set a good example.

Have you ever heard of the story of Sir Bravesocks the PvP player? He scoffed at those whiny PvEers always whining about getting griefed in Open. And those PvE posters and their frontier forum echo chambers.
The he went into the PvP forum section to whine endlessly how the biased moderators are all meanies to the PvPers, and how the nasty PvEers would dare to post in the PvP section.
He then had a hissy fit went into his trailer with the star on the door and a sign that read: "PvP Prima Donna".

Difference is .... this is a true story :)

Prima Donna is a good description. But there are PvPers and then there are the 'true PvPers'. Like many players, I don't have a problem with being attacked by other players, it adds to my game and if it became too much, I could easily just play in Solo or a group, or just use the blocklist. The game provides these options even though I don't use them, just as it provides Power Play and I don't use that, but others do.

I'm interested to know just how many of these self proclaimed 'true PvPers' there actually are, because the way some talk it appears they all know each other.

I'd like to encourage any reader to understand that there is a big difference between a player that is happy to compete against other players as well as co-operate, and the kind of player that will mock another for high waking.

no rep left to give you +! made me laugh. Sir Bravesocks sounds like a good name for a ship

What do you mean? Can you clarify?

Have many reasons.. can you elaborate?
Lack of purpose of your in-game actions as a Commander. How some can be both King of the Imperial Navy and/or Admiral of the Federal Navy, potentially triple Elite and still be treated like some common pilot that just got his pilot's license by any NPCs out there. Seriously, it bothers me to all degrees to see a Harmless pirate in a shoddy Cobra MkIII come in to scan me and attack me for 1 ton of some rather common and useless commodity that isn't worth all that much in the first place. All this while I'm sitting in my nearly-maxed engineered Federal Corvette, just having vaporized an Elite Anaconda right in front of said Harmless pirate. Seriously dude, put some life into the NPC's please, its just gross at this point.

It was the voices in his head that made him do it.
