Modes Open vs solo

Don't need open for "full-on Multiplayer".

Can get the same in a PG. It really depends on what people are looking for in Multiplayer games

Sorry Jockey, disagree. PG by its very nature, is a contradiction to OPEN. We where there, already, many times. When "full-on" is about "all", which is about "all possible", your wrong. How is it going old chap? Still confused about Liberty, hm?

(no offense)

Yes, you cannot have "full on" while under such constraints.

Can you wing up with anyone or do they have to be ps friends?

Roybe gave a thorough answer.

You do realize what "Full-on" multiplayer is right? All that is possible in Open is All that is possible in PGs as well... anything you can do in Open you can do in PGs, even wing up with Strangers..

Here is something many don't understand. Open is a PG in itself, it is just the default one you don't have to request to join. Instancing works in PG's just like it does in Open. And you can meet absolute strangers in a PG JUST like you can in Open. You can have Battles against opponents, work together towards a goal.... Full-on multiplayer does not mean EVE like server where everyone is in the same instances... because even in Open that will never happen.

So if you think Jockey is wrong realize then that by your own definition about about what "Full-on" means.... Open is not Full on either.

Everyone here. Everyone elsewhere. Mouse is your PG.

Everyone anywhere, Mouse, is Open.

Well, if you want to equivocate, sure, you can make a PG that has no rules in addition to the ones Frontier has in place.
But that isn't how PGs are run in practice, is it?

You can do everything in a PG, you can do in Open - there is no "contradiction" (I think you may have picked the wrong word there).
They are exactly the same, the only difference is that you need to manually join the PG first. But after that, they work the same as Open.

The only difference, the PG owner can kick you from the PG. However, if they made it so people can join without the need to be invited, the kicked person can just rejoin at will.
So yes, PGs can replace Open mode quite easily. We just need a PG browser to see the PGs that are set to public access.

And it is going well my friend, thanks for asking.
How are you doing? We've not spoke in ages, I hope all is well.

I've not tried every PG ever made so I cannot say if any are run that way, but I know there are some PvP PGs as well as PvE ones.
And I believe there are also some "Ironman" PGs as well, because some folks are just mental so it seems.

That right there is a stark difference!

I wasn't asking for an exhaustive accounting.
If there is a PG that is run without additional constraints, we both know it is an outlier.
There would be no point as you might as well play in open.

The largest group by far prides itself on the constraints it places on players, as do the members.
Ironman is also a constraint.
You are not being honest.

There's a reason it's called "open".

Frontier can "kick" you from Open (shadow ban) - the real difference is, in an "open PG" after the owner kicks you; you can rejoin right away - if Frontier do it from real Open Mode, you have to wait until they let you back in.

"not being honest" ?

Because I said I've not tried every PG ever made, but there are PvP ones, PvE ones and Ironman ones?
Care to explain which ones don't exist then? Because you'd be wrong.

I've not said how many exist of each type as I don't know and cannot be bothered to count them, but that link will take you to all sorts of PGs.
Can people run a PG exactly like open mode (even if it seems pointless), yes they can actually do that if they want to do it and some people do.

The only one being dishonest here is you to yourself.
Open isn't special and the game could easily survive without it. as people can make their own "Open Mode" PGs and carry on as if nothing ever happened.

Open is a PG just like Solo or any of the other PGs

If you are in open you are constrained from engaging with the other PGs and Solo.
If you are in one of the many PGs you are constrained from engaging with those in the Open PG and the Solo PG
and if you are in solo... the same applies

Now if you are in Open or one of the non solo PGs you have access to all the multi-player functions such as wings and muli crew.

It is all one game with a matchmaker, that is all. Everyone affects the game regardless of the PG they are in even if that is the Solo PG.
This ensures that no one is left out its a great design.

The number of people who exploit the modes for their personal gain are no more and no less abundant than the griefers we always hear about.
Everybody should just play the mode they like (even if it changes from session to session) and stop faffing about others and how they want to play

I’ve been looking at it, I know there are other forums. But those are kinda old so I didn’t know if they’re still relevant, I wanted to get some info that’s current in game. I play solo right now on the PS4, I don’t have psplus, I’m just trying to decide if I should get it. So, what’s better about open than solo or vice versa. I know that squadrons and fleet carriers are coming and I’m looking forward to those.
Thanks

You can never predict what another player will do. It's much more exciting experience. It CAN be bad as well at time - but it's not as bad as many other online games.

And don't let anyone tell you that Open is terrifying and full of gankers and griefers who are only looking to destroy your ship for teh lulz. Yeah, they're there, but they usually hang around the most popular and hottest systems - Community Goals, new discoveries, Engineers etc. Then you have instancing and time zones coming into that as well, so it's nowhere as bad, as some people would like you to think.

And even if you come across some unsporty players, you can always block them, which will ensure you won't matchmake with them again in the game (unless you have the same people on your friends list, as that takes priority when matchmaking).

I would wholeheartedly recommend it. I play pretty much exclusively in Open and I've gazzilion times more positive and interesting experiences there than the bad ones.

+1 from me - GO OPEN! :)

^This pretty much tells you all you need to know.

AFAIC, I recommend everyone try Open at least once. And once you have, make your own decision based on your own personal preference, not what others tell you. :)

No, it's because you are being disingenuous.

Frontier + PG owner = more constraints.
It really is as simple as that.

Eg, In an Ironman PG I am ostensibly not allowed to get blown up repeatedly and keep my assets.

Your argument is obtuse.

Nailed it.

Very true, even in PGs you don't know; just look at those who PvP in the Mobius PG which has a rule saying no PvP.

So PGs have that "unknown" factor just like Open does.

You can 2Ironman" in pen as well, so constraints are not just limited to PGs.
same for anything anyone does in PGs.

Face facts, you can use PGs as you use Open, and Open can be used in the same way PGs are.

They are exactly the same.
