Optional Internal space for smaller units

I haven't played for a few years and this is still crap.

It would be really nice if some of that extra space in the internal compartments could be used more efficiently. There's a bunch of single unit internals and no real way of making use of them in any decent ship build without sacrificing something that is essential to the role that you are building for.

ie, What sane person sacrifices a 3 space internal for a supercruise assistance module???

I really want to use supercruise assist and docking computers, but never have the room to do so. At the end of the day, this is just frustrating and p*****s me off.

Please fix this.

When supercruise assist and docking computers were added to the game, all ships got a new size 1 slot added to them, except small ships which got two size 1 slots added.

Take the slots back and give us a combined ADC/SCA/planetary landing computer module. I can land a ship, and I understand the joy of six just fine, but it would be nice to be able to use the ADC and SCA from time to time. As it is, I can almost always find a better module to use in those extra slots. So instead of SCA/ADC I have added HP via SCB/MRP/HRP/GSB/etc. or another limpet controller or cargo rack.

I can dock and un dock but 30 times an hour doesnt add much game play I have recently been happier to loose SCA when I need a DSS but I would be happier if they were all built in and on/off able on the ship panel and loose a 1 slot

Agreed. My trade and general mission ships definitely have adv docking computer, but no surface scanner. My exploration ships have no docking assist, but I do have surface scanner and cruise assist, which I don't use for cruising but prevents me from running into stars not paying attention. Mining and res sites, dunno whatever I feel like or what happens to be in the ship.

Point being its really nice having the slots and the ability to choose what to put in them. I like having the choice. I think FDev was nice giving additional slots so we could choose.

The SCA is great for exploration ships. Sometimes that anomaly or earthlike/water/ammonia world is 10s of thousands, or hundreds of thousands of Ls from the sun. SCA makes getting to those a lot less annoying.

Never used one and don't have one fitted to my explorers, just slows me down unacceptably, if I make the occasional mistake of attention and zoom past my destination at many times the speed of light that's my problem. However if they were to remove these devices from slots and remove the added slots players would then complain about the removal of the slots, so I say leave them as they are.

Supercruise assist and the advanced docking computer always felt like quality of life things to me. It seems strange that they take up an internal slot, rather just being baked into the ship settings.
They don't add or subtract any particular challenge, they just remove a level of frustration.
Plus, there are reasons you wouldn't necessarily have them turned on, like smuggling or dodging interdiction.

It's all about sacrifice for you guys, why can't something be made easy without having to make a sacrifice? The game is difficult enough as it is, they are just alienating people by not making these free.

There is absolutely no facet of gameplay that is lost by making these free and leaving the rest as-is.

I said almost, not completely. I've set supercruise assist on a couple of times to find that I've rammed into a planet or sun, it has no avoidance.

It allows me to make a cup of tea, which is slightly more useful than just setting my ship in a direction and coming back to find I'm further away than I started at. How this feature relates to gameplay is beyond me. The same goes for docking computer, it allows me to read an article or watch a video instead of docking my ship.

Elite really isn't all that difficult. Even for space flight - go play Orbiter, try docking anything with the ISS or Mir. That's a hard docking procedure. Why should games always be pitched at the lowest common denominator? It also seems that many Elite players come from a background of games that require a little more thinking than average - I personally have a background in sims, mostly milsims. Orbiter is a space flight sim I've played a lot of, even did some test flying for the Delta Glider IV.

You still haven't responded to my comment about loadout, what is it you must carry that means you can't have a SCA or a DA? I'm in my Python somewhere between Colonia and Gandharvi, after a trip via Sag A* and Colonia. I've got both items you say you wish you had and everything else I might need.. Shield, Scoop, SRV hanger, AFMU, SCA, DA, really can't say I've wanted anything else while I've been out here. I don't mine while exploring, so mining gear would be superfluous. I do have a full weapons load out, but that only messes with my jump range.

Ive begun using it to watch the contacts page while cruising into the station it means I know what is after me ....and what sort of mats it may have

They are virtually free, in the class of things you pay for in this game the cost of docking computers and SCA module is nothing, you aren't asking them to be free, you are asking for them to be automatically installed. Sure I have no problem with that, when you buy a ship just pop them into a slot for nothing on every purchase, then us players who don't want them can sell them and you players who do want them can keep them. Ah but I forgot it's not about the cost, it's about freeing up those slots, those slots that were "added" to take these devices. If the devices are combined into the ships computer those slots should be removed.
