Newcomer / Intro Orbital Lines

Thanks... It was under Ship > Pilot Preferences. Wonder why mine switched back? Is there a keybind that I accidentally pressed? Hmmm

There’s also an option to bind a key to toggle them on/off. You may already have a key set up and inadvertently hit it and turned them back on.

That's what I'm thinking, but I'll be damned if I could find it under the KeyBinding optioins. Went thru it 3 times.

I’m away from the game today, but I’ll post where it is tomorrow if you haven’t already found it. Regards

I remapped it to O. Seems to be more logical imho. For historical reference, 5 years ago at the game's launch there was no option to turn off orbit lines, but after an outcry about immersion it was quickly hot fixed with a toggle key. But why those vertical supercruise bars have never been optional I'll probably spend the rest of my days wondering about, but miracles do sometimes happen, look at fleet carriers.......

I guess you weren't taking part in that beta where they tried to remove them, then?
People cried so much that they actually removed the speed bars, yes.

...and people hated it even more, so much so, that this change has been dropped from the beta immediately and never mentioned again.

The problem is - you need to have a visual reference for movement in space. Speed bars are doing just that. Create the illusion of movement through space.
In other words, the only thing we found out was that had they removed the speed bars, they would have had to replace them with something similar anyway so your brain doesn't go nuts in supercruise. :)

You can demonstrate this by flying to Hutton Orbital some distant station using Super Cruise Assist while looking at a screenshot of your cockpit view in supercruise, then repeating the exercise looking at the actual view.
