Orbiting bodies?

Hi all

Fairly new here so have a quick question as I can't find anything on the forum. Do the planets / moons / stations actually orbit, i.e. move around the sun?

Reason I ask is that I was sat outside a station and just chatting to my better half when I turned around I noticed that the station wasn't in front of me any more but had actually moved, if I sat long enough would the station orbit the planet ? so the larger question does the planet orbit the sun.

If not, will they be implementing it in ED?

the planets etc all move yes, there is a time lapse video someone did on the forums showing this.... just need to find it......

there is one

Many thanks for the reply. glad to see this in the game and that my eyes weren't playing tricks on me. thanks for the link to the Vid.

EDIT: Just watched it hope they make it so the planet rotates as well, looked very strange seeing the same side. only time will tell.

I'm not sure, but I'd hazard a guess that the planet IS rotating in a similar way to the way our moon rotates.

Ahh, yes, good point there. I'd like to see if all planets are like that or if some do actually rotate like earth. But can't sit around for 11 hours to see :). Even through we might not see it etc, I really do hope Frontier do model it - especially for when then bring in plant landings.

As far as I'm aware the entire thing is a proper simulation.
The planets rotate about their axes, they orbit their stars, multiple star systems orbit around their barycentres etc... etc...
The whole thing should be exactly as it actually is in the galaxy. Apart from the names of course.

The red star is Maher, the planet is Maher Prime and it's a gas giant.
I think we're not seeing the rotation because of the LOD.
At the end of the video, when the planet reappears on the right you can see for a few seconds until it moves further away that it does rotate.

Also it's obvious that Maher is rotating around it's axis.

This is one thing I like about Elite universe: IT IS ALIVE! :)
