Ships Orca owners club

I do really like my Orca, the Mount Assiniboine. I have 1 luxury, 1 first, and 1 business class cabin for sight seeing trips around the bubble. I will load up on 3 of sight seeing missions and try to get 20-25MCr per round trip. I really like some of the tourist spots in the game, they are very stunning locales at times. I A rated the thrusters on Mount Assiniboine and have G3 dirty drives for speed. One day I'll take her out to Maia and giver her the full G5 dirty drives. No weapons at all as I can boost far away from danger whenever I am interdicted. The jump range is a respectable 38ly which really does make those sight seeing trips shorter in duration.

Considering I often fly a Type-9 the Orca also feels like it has dream-like handling although I recognize she if more speedy than nimble. But yeah the Orca has a solid use in the game and is a fine ship.

She'll run better with Clean Drives. Tristan runs as cool as 15-20% on average, and peeks at barely 70ish% when scooping.

I recently bought an Orca, and love this ship. I have many ships, but the Orca is something special. My idea was to make it fast, cool and jump far to use for sightseeing missions, with occasional smuggling, transport and exploration duties.

And that's just what she is. Runs about 17% heat, 445 top speed, boosts to 564. 40+ jump range with a single cabin for sightseeing. If I run one class 6 and two class 5 cabins for transport it drops to around 37 jump range.

I have no weapons on it, what would be the point? Submit to interdiction, and with the high speed and low sig, the interdictor is left muttering "it was there a minute ago..."

It's well-engineered obviously to hit these figures. But what a ship!

Impressive specs yes, but it's the soft factors that really put the Orca over the top. The elegance, the looks, the fantastic visibility, the cachet. And chicks dig it. What more could the discerning commander ask for?

Here she is in single-cabin sightseeing trim. I might finally break down for a paint job. Of all my ships, this one is calling out for it. Since this shot was taken, she has seen some refinement, and I added the obligatory wake scanner. And there is still a ways to go before she is done. It has put my Interstellar Transportation Company on the proverbial map. Folks go out of their way to fly on super-Orcas. Fast, safe and luxurious. See the galaxy in comfort and style!

Add me to the Orca owners club as one satisfied customer :)

Hello,

right now i'm doing the passenger missions in a Dolphin, but i'm looking in the direction of an Orca.
The colour i already have [big grin]

The Blue one!

Ok, there is what i have thought about the outfitting:
https://eddp.co/u/RqbKsQSS
What do you think?
it should also run undetected, because the best payed jobs are running 'Bonnie & Clyde'.
Why smaller Thrusters - weight! It is still fast enough
Why smaller Power Distributor - weight!
Why no scoop but additional 12t of fuel - obviously the range increase is enough for the bubble.

My idea was to make it fast, cool and jump far to use for sightseeing missions, with occasional smuggling, transport and exploration duties.
That idea came also to me. Ok not exploring.

It will get the job done, especially for bulk passenger missions. But if you're sightseeing, consider storing any cabins that don't get filled.

Personally, I'd drop the fuel tanks for a scoop. You mention saving weight, then put two fuel tanks in. The scoop has no weight. I have ADS and DSS on board.

With your power requirement so low, I'd consider dropping a Power Plant class.

I'm running Low-Powered 4A shields with Lo-Draw experimental. It is lighter than your Bi-Weave, and stands at 271mj, and I'm running no boosters. In fact, the only utility is a wake scanner, just because I feel compelled to scan any I come across. The thing is I'm never hit, actually never fired upon because it's so fast that in PvE at least, it's gone before the interdictor can even deploy his hardpoints. I feel I only need shields for portside bumps and scrapes and misjudged gravity. It runs so fast and cool it's rarely targeted. If you keep going on your Clean Drives you'll get even faster, then I think things like shield boosters and chaff can be discarded, but that's just me.

I'd recommend going with class 6 G5 clean drives. They are heavier yes, but probably would be like 1/2 a light year's difference, and the additional speed is awesome. Speed is life when you run with low shields and no weapons.

Have fun with your Orca should you pull the trigger. It's a hell of a ship.

Finally got around to running the build through Coriolis, now that it's easy to add engineering.

Stratocaster

Shown here in single-cabin sightseeing trim. Runs at 17% heat, 445 top speed, 564 boost, 42 jump, which drops to 37 if I fit three cabins. But I only would do that for transport, and those missions are short and jump range is not a concern. No weapons, no utilities, though I mount a wake scanner sometimes. The Orca is a fantastic ship.

Thank you for this build....no SRV needed for sightseeing though?

No reason you couldn't fit one Dan. But for me not needed. I have SRV on the Keelback (my planetary lander and raw materials gatherer) and AspX (my deep diver exploration vessel). On sightseeing missions I don't have any need for a SRV. Personal choice, but certainly viable. Your passengers may grow impatient though while you joyride around the craters :)

Thank you, I have not done a sightseeing mission yet (Orca purchase is happening tomorrow, though!!) so was not sure if an SRV was needed or not for such missions. I appreciate that tip so I know not to have to take one for those. o7

I see, I misunderstood. No. While planetary scans are required on the Horizons missions, they can be done from the ship. SRV is not required, though some folks like to do these planetary beacon scans in the SRV, to get a good look at the geysers and so forth from the surface perspective. Purely optional.

I like to scan and run, and often feel guilty that the passengers are paying so much money to spend 15 seconds at the destination :D

Enjoy the Orca, she's a real beauty Wait until you see the view out of this thing.

Thank you very much for the details! I'm getting a clearer picture now of how that works. I thought you had to land and scan, so to speak.

I can't wait for my new boat!

Got it! :)

Thanks for the help Sinisalo....I'm really enjoying how she (Adiona, after the Roman goddess) handles for a big ship, and she's actually better behaved in stations than my Asp X is for delicate maneuvers.

I've had to dodge three interdictions with her already today and while not as nimble as the Dolphin (obviously) she was about the same to get out of it as my Asp was; a bit more effort but do-able.

Since I got her kitted and back to my home port, she's earned 20 mil so far today, and I've still got an evening play session planned so hope to get back up to 100 mil tonight with some luck and effort. I'll likely get a Python next weekend for my 'truck' and do mining with that.

Gotta say I love that docking computer. She's not too hard to dock but it's so much faster with the computer, though I do ensure she's generally lined up with the mailbox first and I have shields just in case.

Introducing a 60.00LY Orca...

Who would have thought it's possible to have a 60.00LY Orca?
However, I've finally engineered one.
She's a beauty... It's got the full exploration scan kit and can carry 6 business passengers in style.
For me to get the exact range, I had to put in some ballast which is the class two multicannon.

[please see pics]

It's a Blue Orca at the moment, but I'm still wishing for the golden paint job!
Quarter 4 exploration update... here I come!

It’s a fine ship. I did the 5000 ly trip to unlock Palin a long time ago in mine. Now I have 2. With G5 Dirty Drives you can make it go more than 500 m/s topspeed :). In a large ship!

Just joined the Orca owners club with the establishment of a cruise line subsidiary to my "Star Line" freighter fleet. The Orca joins a new Dolphin as the two passenger ships in the fleet.

It's set up for long distance luxury cruising with a 6B Luxury cabin (8 passengers), two 5D Business Class cabins (20 passengers) and fuel scoop. I like the ships looks and performance.
