Ordered an Oculus Rift!

Anyway been reading the VR forum, seems best thing to do is clone my boot drive so if things go bad I don't screw my main drive up.
Also I do find the headset claustrophobic.
Maybe if plugged in and eyepieces working this will change, but it feels like putting my eyes and head into a dark soft bag, weird:(

So I need glasses for driving cause I cant read signs too well!

However In Elite I don't need glasses! I see everything perfect, I can read everything and it all looks smooth!

Sideeffect: I have NO screendoor effect whatsoever! :D so my eyes are perfect in VR while a bit limited outside ;)

It really depends on your specific eyesight issues.

The focal distance / point in a rift is set (I believe) at 2 meters, so if in real life things look sharp at that distance then you should be Ok in the rift. If however things are starting to get a bit blurry at that range then wearing your prescription should help.

Tried on the headset with my specs on, mistake:(
Knocked out one of the nose pads on my specs

There's a link in my previous post (no. 3 in this thread) that will let you look at the WidmoVR prescription inserts if you missed it. There are also other manufacturers who do custom inserts, but WidmoVR are the ones I use and can recommend them. They fit inside the headset and are (IMO obviously) very unobtrusive and comfortable. They also don't seem to fog up in the way my actual glasses did when I first tried the rift.

I never liked wearing glasses inside the headset and even the pair I did use which had small light frames were difficult to set exactly right. Much better IMHO to fit the lenses into the headset and just forget about them.

Yeah I didn't mean to generalize it... just saying being near sighted doesn't mean you need glasses inside the rift for everyone! And yes at 2m I see perfectly fine! its longer distance where I get issues - hence I need glasses for driving...

So you got the rift and you are not using it cause whne you put it on your head without them on you feel claustrophobic?!?!?! LOL you are something else!
Switch them on man! :D

Welcome to the VR Club OP, you will enjoy it and wonder what you can turn your monitor into? A tray? a animated picture frame perhaps?

One Gripe from us UK based peps, why oh why do we continuously always get seen off when products come over from America??

$399 over there, £399 over here... Both Amazon prices. If $399 then it should be retailing in UK for £301.49 (Todays exchange rate) Where is the £97 pounds going? to Amazon? to Oculus? Damn the crazy rates, but OP i digress, apologies.

ENJOY your VR Experience

Just don't lean backwards and start pouring water over your face. Unless you're going for a virtual Guantanamo Bay experience of course.

Anyway, sometimes I find that it's bit like looking through a scuba mask (it really fits when playing Subnautica), and sometimes I just naturally tune out that feeling. Once you've got something to look at in front of you, your attention should start to become focused on that and you should soon forget about any feelings of claustrophobia. Elite should feel almost the opposite of that, it's like, whoa! I'm in open space! Try the vertigo background for your Oculus Home area and go and stand by the edge. That'll make you forget about your feelings claustrophobia.

Indeed, it can seem a little cramped at times and that's purely due to the FOV.
Comes from having just about half your natural field of view available.

And it's because of the FOV I pledged for the Pimax 8k, heck, I would have signed up for that if it had the same pixel density as the rift, just give me that FOV :D

Still beats trying to fly a ship remotely from the go pro feed stuck to the chair that is flat screen :p

Im not a big fan of cloning drives, for my home machine I just make a new install usb using the MS boot creation toolkit.
This will be a fresh install but with all major and most minor patches and os updates all in there already.
It is in my experience not the patches or the features themselves that cause problems but the patching sometimes make things go in sideways when they shouldn't and you end up with glitches, bugs etc. And VR is in general very sensitive to these things.

Ugh, originally quoted the wrong person.

If you happen to feel sick at first from it, take it slow. Play only till you feel sick and then stop immediately... for some people earning VR legs takes couple days.

Thinking about it, I see great without specs for about 6 inches, so probably do not need the specs.
Will read the manual at work on Wednesday.
Hunting Gold:)

Err sorry Cmdr , if you're short sighted, you WILL need to wear your specs.
If you are long sighted, then you'll have no problems and won't need glasses.
Focus on oculus is at infinite even if headset lenses are inches from your face.
