Newcomer / Intro Orion Nebula

I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to get to the Orion Nebula?
I have been flying around trying to find a rout that goes to it.
I tried EDSM that says it is accessible but I cannot find a route that doesn't go through a permit locked system.
I'm currently in SYNUEFE XX-B CO about 400-500 LY away from the Nebula. I cannot figure out a route.
does anyone else know of any other route plotters that will can show possible routes?

Yes, there's massive permit locked wall of star systems blocking you. As far as I know, that's been the case for a long while. All I can suggest it you find a route to the left, right, above or below and navigate around it.

Very irritating.

From the bubble plan a route to a star on the underside of the Witch Head Nebula (Evangelis will do fine). From there continue in the direction of Orion. IIRC there are also permit locked sectors in the vicinity of Orion and Barnard's Loop so you may have to do some more detours later on.

The Orion Nebula sector is a small bubble of non-locked space, buried inside the larger Col 70 bubble. There's a narrow hole at one end, and the wall is thin enough in other places that a ship with large jump range can jump through it.

To illustrate, here's a 2-D cross-section map of the permit-locked bubbles, at y = -210:

Beware, Orion is kind of like one of those old-fashioned glass flytraps: getting in might be hard, but getting out is harder - you basically have to re-trace your route in.

Sorry to jump in so late, I hope I don't get dancing skeletons, but yeah, Very Irritating! I was going to jump over to Horsehead Nebula last night but everything is locked out. Several months back, I was way out, went through, I think Heart Nebula and worked my way around to the far backside of, I think COL 70 sector, some 5000+Lys out from the Bubble. The Bubble was a straight shot through countless locked systems. I had three choices... retrace my path, which I didn't want to do, go all the way around, a few 1000 Lys out of my way, or... it looked like I could pick my way through this WALL of locked systems, going a few 100Lys at a time, up and down, had to back track a few times... I look back on it now and think, well, I made it home and used a little skill navigating back, however, at the time it was seriously frustrating! And a big bummer that I could not head to the Horsehead Nebula last night 😔 I did a little research online and found these things have been locked for years, and, apparently, there are things locked now that weren't years ago. Let's hear it for Exploration! Pff! :cautious:

I must've been quite lucky then. Being unaware and always having wanted to go to the Orion nebula I went there to open up an engineer (Farseer?) with my Courier* when I first started playing (think it was A rated but doubt the jump drive had been engineered). I just flew galactic north then along and worked my way there.
Found this place completely by accident: https://eddb.io/station/66277 which was awesome and bought a Sidewinder then suicided back to the bubble (the one and only time I've ever used that cheat - it was a freaking long flight and I think I was beginning to suffer from space dementia).

* (maybe the Cobra thinking about it)
