OSVR Support?

Forgive my ignorance if this had already been confirmed/answered, but I just wanted to ask again for my sake (and everyone else that's probably wondering the same). :D

I've been thinking about buying a VR headset, and considering Oculus' DK2 is sold out at the moment, I've found a great alternative, the OSVR. In the past stream with Braben's Q&A, he mentioned that he'd been playing on the Vive for the demos he showed, and slightly touched on the subject of OSVR compatibility, albeit rather vague.
So, my question is, is there any sort of universal compatibility for VR headsets, including the OSVR, or is it specifically for Oculus?

There is no universal compatibility. Support for consumer versions of HTC Vive and Oculus Rift are planned.
They may support other VR implementations but none are confirmed yet.

To quote myself from another thread:
Unfortunately the last they mentioned of OSVR was that they didn't think they would implement support for it.

Here is the article.

And the relevant quote:
While Frontier is open to directly supporting VR platforms other than the Rift, David Braben explained to Ars at GDC that Elite almost certainly won’t implement support for theOSVR initiative.
"The fact that we’ve already got it working," said Braben, referring to the game’s existing 3D support, "would mean we’d have to take a step back to take a step forward, because we’re already using our own tools." Braben explained that when Frontier began adding Rift support in 2013 to the proprietary Cobra engine that powers Elite, OSVR didn’t exist, and that adding OSVR support might compromise the game’s performance.

Razer has always been good at getting new types of hardware to market but they're hopeless at building a strong foundation/infrastructure to get their more unusual products adopted widely. OSVR is open-source but that isn't enough by itself to make it a success.
